The gum and patch can be purchased over the counter.  You health insurance carrier my give you a discount as an incentive.  You state local health agencies may have resources to obtain a limited supply to start.

nope.  you only need to go to a doctor if you need a prescription for Chantix or Wellbutrin.  Now, if you are on other medications for other health problems, it's always best to discuss with your doctor what you plan on using

Hi, I'm new here.  I'm sure it varies, but when I told the Dr. I wanted to quit she Rx'd us the patches and our insurance paid for the whole thing and we didn't have to pay anything out of pocket.  We also had called out states quit line and they offered us both patches and gum at no charge to get us started.

I didn't even know they Rx'd the patches - I thought they had to be purchased OTC so wanted to let you know in case I'm not the only one

Good Luck to all of us!

What is offered by state varies. You can see the state quitline info here.
