Have you tried Yoga for your problem of respiration. I am not sure but it may help.
I use yoga today. It is helpful in so many ways from the mind/body connection to the focus on breathing to the gentle meeting of one where (s)he is. Headstands are particularly helpful but I can't do those right now. You can crawl up against a wall to get started. Classes are very helpful - small works best for me - and a very supportive instructor. I've been very fortunate to have one of the best!
