This is a poll. I wanted to try out and do one, asking an easy and random question. So, what would you say? Are you happy not smoking? Sometimes? Never?? Tell me about it!
I am as happy as a non smoker as I was smoking. That doesn't preclude the fact that I may want a cigarette on occasion. Actually I would say there is no difference whatsoever in my happiness factor. It is the same whether I smoked or not. Happiness has nothing to do with smoking.
Yes but those feelings didn’t happen over night...it was work to learn that Happiness is within all of us...Great post...~ Colleen 514 DOF
I always thought that smoking was a factor in my happiness it wasn't until I quit smoking and I got into a good place in my quit that I realized how much better life was BUT as far as happiness goes I don't think it hasn't much to do with smoking although I believe I'm much happier as an EXer than I was a smoker although I didn't realize that at the time. I cannot even imagine going through this pandemic as a smoker. Even though not perfect, my lungs are in much better shape as a non-smoker. Also, not necessary to make trips to the store to buy cigarettes. Just a couple of benefits of being a non-smoker!
When I first quit I was dependent and addicted to nicotine, and associated smoking with feeling in control--I was happy about that as a smoker. And I wanted to keep it that way. Getting the nicotine addiction satisfied was my goal--that is not happiness but the process of addiction.
In quitting, over time, I've lost the connection of nicotine/smoking and feeling in control. So today I don't think of smoking as giving me something--happiness, satisfaction or anything.
Whether I am happy or unhappy in any given moment has nothing to do with smoking (nicotine addiction)--it's just life. Although I smoked from age 17-54 (with one quit when I was young), now that I'm 6.5 years smober, I remember what it felt like to never even consider smoking as a kid. It meant nothing to me back then. To feel like that again today is a touch of heaven--a happiness far and above the temporary relief of receiving hits of nicotine.
I picked the "Yes! Always! No doubt!" answer, which is true now. But it took nearly 2 years for me to feel that way. I was always very glad that I quit from the first day. Took a while longer to feel truly happy w/o the smokes.
I totally agree with Tom. It took me a long while also. Couldn't be happier about it now. As Dale says. "It takes time, just give it time."
Happier, MUCH happier! Freedom is NOT just another word for nothin’ left to lose. Got here one day at a time, one FEELING at a time.
Wouldn't want it any other way , far more happier being a non smoker .
It is one more stressor I check mark off the list that included many other stresses .
Everything is better a non smoker . Physical Health , Mental Clarity , Financial Health .
