I did smokenders a quit smoking program back around 1981. It worked for 20 yrs until my divorce. Since we all know smoking is an IQ test that we have failed what remains is how do we successfully quit. My plan is as follows:

  • Week one: Wait 15 minutes after all meals and any other intake of food, coffee, soda booze etc. before smoking. also 15 minutes after getting up or before going to bed. You can do 15 minutes standing on your head, really.
  • The reason for this is that nicotine is a vasoconstrictor that I have been using to start the degestive process instead of letting my body do the job and my body needs to get back into its routine. Gradually seems to work best for me.
  • I have picked out places that I won't smoke. For me it includes the bedroom, my favorite chair watching TV, on the phone and in front of my computer. Lots of other spots will be added as the weeks progress but cold turkey almost never works so I will take it in steps. I know that works for me.
  • I can smoke all that I want just as long as I obey my self imposed limits. This is the Key. Setting a realistic group of limits will give me confidence and the strength to go forward with optimism.

Week 2 is next week, not this week and I know that I have Not Quit Yet. I have to get well first!!!

I quit on May 5th 2017. The book that lots of folks recommend here got me mad enough and smartened me up a bit too. My main tool was the SmokeEnder system which I abbreviated. I used no nicotine alternatives because they don't address the real problems in quitting.
