liberty4422's Status Update on 02/10/2017

I slipped today. Bought a pack of cigarettes but only smoked a coupe puffs. It was so disgusting, I almost got sick. I still crave every now and then, but I know I don't want if. I have been 6 days without a full cigarette.

Good for you - six days without a cigarette.  Except for today.  Might find some of the posts in https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/  helpful.  Do a search for relapsetraps (all one word).  Here's one:  https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/

I tried to prevent slipping, by distracting myself. Doing jigsaw and talking to my support people. The people I have in my group aren't going to let me fall back to smoking. They would kick my butt if I went back. I think today was a trial run for me. Just to see what smoking was like, if I still enjoyed it

Plus I don't feel like making my mentor any more richer. Because she got all my cigarettes when I quit. Then when I caved today she got those. She is selling my cigarettes, so I know I got this. I just needed to make sure for myself that I don't like them anymore.

You need to decide that you don't want them in your life, that they don't fix anything.  I never really liked them, seriously...but I thought I NEEDED them and now I am paying the price.  Don't let tobacco control your life again.

I almost said "I'm sorry but..." But I'm not sorry. That's no way to decide if you're really ready to quit. What if you had liked them??

We all said the same thing, at least I know I did: " I like smoking, it is my only vice".  In fact if you educate yourself about the nicotine addiction you will understand what we all "liked" was the "feeling good" created by the temporary release of dopamine from a cigarette.  But that is quickly gone, leaving room for the crave for the next one to grow until we satisfy it again by smoking another one.  Please read "the Easy way to quit smoking" by Allan Carr.  That book helped me in a big way at the beginning of my quit.  I had a hard time accepting I am an addict, but once I faced the fact I was able to start letting go, and start recovering.  The link to the book and many other useful tools can be found https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/.  Please take the time to read, and come back stronger, we'll be here to help, guide, support, make your quit easier, stronger, one day at the time!  I hope you will make the right choice for yourself.  Smoking is a choice, you feel hard to make right now, but in retrospective you'll be so happy you made the right choice!

just to see if yo still liked them?? that is the addiction talking.  Don't listen. I almost did the same thing today. But didn't so I am still 6 days smoke free, no credit to me. I was a passenger in my friends car. I asked her to stop and I would buy a pack of cigarettes. She said 'no, I'm not going to enable your addiction".  Thank Heavens for friends.

Welcome to EX and you are right, she is a true friend.  By the way, this entry from liberty4422 was a year ago, I don't know if she is still active on the site.  I don't recognize the name.  Your quit belongs to YOU and it is your job to protect it, no matter what.  You were absolutely right that liberty's addiction was talking...just like yours was today.  Glad your friend was there and congratulations on another day won.
