of the Quit Broadcasting System!

If you are early in your quit, this is a reminder to attend your gathering with a plan in mind.  What will you do if there is an uncomfortable situation, if your usual gang goes outside to smoke, if you are offered a cigarette, if everyone is enjoying several glasses of wine?  You KNOW what you SHOULD do:  take a break, help in the kitchen, have a cup of coffee, turn down the offer of a smoke and find new folks with whom to hang........If everyone smokes inside the party place, put some Vicks under your nose to negate the smell and remind you of your quit.

Be prepared, not surprised.  It's OK to make an excuse to leave early if you find yourself having a rough time.  Your quit needs to be your #1 priority!  Headaches happen!

If you are a longer term quitter, be careful of alcohol consumption.  Too many quits have been lost when the thought that "just one wont hurt" is allowed to linger because of a foggy brain.  Do also be prepared and remind yourself of your commitment before you attend a family gathering.  You might have a smoking memory - be prepared, not surprised.

I hope to see everyone on the other side of this holiday still smoke free.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Nancy

I smoked until a vascular surgeon informed me of the damage I had done to myself by doing so. I quit 11 years ago, and I can swim laps virtually FOREVER now, walk most other days 40 minutes to an hour and a half. What a difference quitting has made in my life! I strive to help others find this wonderful freedom from addiction, too.
