My PT came today and cleared me to do my 1 1/2 fights of stairs to get up to my BED - and that will also allow me to get to my walk-in shower!!! He said I looked solid on the crutches and was pleased that it was so.
SOOOOO excited! It will be the first time I have been able to sleep there in over three weeks! It's the little things in life, I am finding?!!!
Life is GOOD today!!
That's wonderful news Nancy YAY you YAY for the walk in shower and YAY for sleeping in your own bed. ♥
Woo hoo! Great news!
Rachel
Nancy you go girl and no one can call you an old fart!
I don't know about that.
That is amazing news!!! Yaaaaay
Watch your step!
So happy for you....takes me back when I broke my leg. I was SOO happy to sleep in bed, not in the Lazy Boy, and everything is on a main floor! I was was no weight bearing for 2 weeks, wheel chair to go to socials for 6 weeks, walker for 3 months, cane until I felt comfortable to walk on my on. I still keep the cane in the car! Small things are GREAT!
YEAH for you Nancy!!
~Kathy
Thanks goodness - but, please be CAREFUL!!
And No surprise...you are one determined lady Nancy...now be safe YoungAtHeart and take care of YOU...so glad you are back on line....and improving ... ~ Colleen 294 DOF
There is NOTHING like sleeping in your own bed and showering in your OWN shower. These ARE the little things we learn to treasure and savor. So happy to hear this.
I am so happy for you...I agree that our own beds and showers are treasures and boy have you earned these treasures!
Love,
Ellen
You are amazing. Watch your step please
I am so happy for you!
Lillian
I love the little things - so glad for YOU Nancy - gentle hug
How could you NOT be solid on crutches after this past year on them Every day in every way we're getting... I spoke with my husband tonight about you at dinner. As you probably know I am very much like you. Stubborn, want NO HELP thank you, and will do it as I WILL DO IT WHEN I WANT TO DO IT!. And as Jackie said, there's no point in giving you (or probably me) wise suggestions. That I'm glad you're in your own bed is a given. Personally I'd like to see you at the next reunion. So I just say climb the stairs but focus on the journey of prevention. We actually have a sign that says FOCUS on the header of our stairs, hand written by me. Perhaps each hard lesson learned will teach us the lesson we don't need to repeat?
I was out there today blowing leaves and moving forward and backward up a steep hill on uneven ground, and I thought of you and your statement that we shouldn't look up and point at trees at the same time, and I realized I have done that all my life. And I didn't have to give it a thought in the past. Now - I do. And so, thank you, for putting that in my head. NOW, because of you, I am more cognizant of my body and those things I need to be cognizant of at a different age and stage of my existence on this planet. I don't LIKE the fact that I now need to do that, THINK about my physical relationship with the world, when before it was automatic. But if it keeps me from a future dislocated pinkie, or tripping over a hickory nut and falling flat on my face down the hill - I'm willing to slow down and focus on things I never had to focus on before. I was acutely aware of everything I did outside when I was leaf blowing today. Thank you for that.
May you sleep and sleep and happily SLEEP!
When out and about in the yard, I am TRYING to plant that first stepping foot, and looking first before I put my full weight on it to be sure there isn't a branch right in front of it, or other tripping hazard, etc before transferring my weight to it - TRYING to be mindful that every step is safe. Still a work in progress! My daughter suggested I carry a walking stick, but I usually have both hands full when I am working outside - and when I tried that before, I kept losing the d@mn thing because I kept putting it down for the next chore.
We are works in progress, but either we learn, or become vegetables - and that just ISN'T my thing!
Glad my object lesson has helped someone else!!!!!
Yes, I know it's hard to be step mindful every second. As far as losing the walking stick, just get some of that wacky colorful duct tape and you won't lose it for long.

There is no better feeling than sleeping in your own bed, I'm so happy for you Nancy!
Good news for you. Just be very careful on the stairs with those crutches.
Terry
I am sooooooooo excited for you!!! This is wonderful news and an amazing accomplishment! Congrats!
Glad to hear your progressing nicely. Don't overdo it.
Barb
Good news! Rest comfortably!!!
Super! Yay to sleeping!
Awesome, to be in your own shower, and bed. Please, Please be very careful!!
I had been allowed to put 50% weight on the leg for the past three weeks - and TODAY I got released from the ortho! It is healed and I can now put 100% weight on it. Still to use one crutch for a bit while I work to strengthen it and not limp and hurt the OTHER hip and leg by doing so.
WHEW! Now to get to all that I have been remiss in doing for the past 7 weeks!
TRYING to be careful.......
I know - I'm trying!!!
Yes, that is great news!
I'm so very happy for you Nancy whew now easy does it please! ♥
Glad you've been released. In this case "trying is not doing" should not be your mantra. Just sayin'! lol
That's great new.
Barb
Good for you.
Stay off ladders
Nancy YoungAtHeart yes please be careful...so glad things are healing ... Happy Saturday Colleen 313 DOF
Great news Nancy. So happy for you. Am going in Wednesday for my right knee. I'll let you know how that goes.
MY PT said they have improved the process and that it isn't nearly as difficult from which to heal now. Praying it will be so for you!
Nancy
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE be careful....do not try to do everything at once...one job at a time, start small. Don't put a new roof on your house this weekend.
Love you, happy for you...
Ellen
Please be careful Nancy! So happy to read this update!
This is great news! But seriously, take it one step at a time (no pun intended). I know you see many things that need doing....but they won't get done if you get injured again! So slow but steady wins the race.
Great news!
