Sorry, I had to go out.   Smoking less does work for some.  I cut down the week before I quit, used Welbutrin, nicotrol inhales, smoking cessation class, and the Ex.  If you look at the upper right on Ex home page there's My Quit Plan.  Why don't you take a look at that to see how you want to approach your quit.  And there's lots of good posts from the community with ideas, advice, and most of all support. It's what really made the difference for me this time.  Stay close and reach out.  You can post to the community before you quit.  We're here for you and want you to be successful.   Wanting to be healthier is probably the number one reason to quit.

Education about nicotine addiction is really important, take out the book by Allen Carr, "The Easy Way to Quit Smoking"...I cannot tell you that I found it EASY but I did feel that there were parts of the book that resonated with me.  I smoked for 47 years and had countless failed quits...this quit is over  5 1/2 years old.  I would never have gotten this far without EX.  I came here every morning and every evening and I read blogs and everything that was recommended to me.  I had already smoked for so long that I had done irreversible damage to my poor lungs.  I have COPD and it is progressive, I do eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly but I struggle every day.  I am on oxygen at night only, I dread the day when I am told that I have to be on it 24/7.  When I quit this time...the date was chosen FOR me, I got so sick that I really did not expect to survive.  I could not get enough air in to cough, I had bilateral pneumonia and it led to an exacerbation of my COPD (which was already pretty bad).  I knew that I could not smoke again even if I was lucky enough to get through this.  I have NEVER regretted quitting but I will ALWAYS regret starting.  Read blogs, comment, ask for advice and take it, know what to expect and prepare yourself.  You can read this blog by JonesCarpeDiem  that I think you will find very helpful.  I also suggest making a plan, I tracked my cigarettes and wrote down my triggers so I could plan for something to do INSTEAD of smoking.  Education, support, and your own commitment not to smoke, no matter what, will get you through.
