Pagreene  But if you have one how does that keep you from having a second and another and another etc. etc.   The craving will pass. Glad you posted here. Keep doing that. https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/  or 100+ Things to do instead of smoking / vaping / chewing.

We are always one puff away from total relapse.  It is like potato chips.  You just can't eat one.

Welcome to Ex You have come to the right place for support to quit smoking. Education is the main key to a successful quit.  Start first by educating yourself on the addiction to nicotine.  It is advisable to read Allen Carr's Easyway to Quit Smoking which can be found on pdf on the web.  Another good site to get info is www.whyquit.com.  There are several articles to read.  Nicotine 101 and Freedom From Nicotine My Journey Home.  If you are ready quit that is great. Quitting takes planning and preparation go to EX Plan | BecomeAnEX to decide how you are going to go about quitting. To get help on navigating the site go to. Community He My lp.  Again Welcome, there is more to come.  If you have any questions you can do a search with the magnifying glass and type any keywords for research on a topic.  If you have any questions just ask and give us the opportunity to respond.  We are here for you

Have none .

Here is some writing I did way back when . I hope you will see that the benefit of not smoking far outweighs having one . One is never enough .

If today I felt like caving in ,
If I puff , what will I’ve gained
If today I lost all my hope
Would  “ one” satisfy,  my pain?

What if I felt like I was going to crash ,
And felt it was just too tough?
What if I could have … just "one "
Would  “one”  really be enough ?

What if today,  I could stand my ground
And go through all this pain ?
What if I refused to smoke
Would there surely be some gain?
and
What if I said , "I’m not giving in"
Giving in , would have no gain
What if today I could endure the pain
To see the rainbow after the rain?

What if I could feel the breeze,  of hope
and took each day ; one… by…. one
And lived by the golden rule of  “nope”
Then   “ none "
Would be more
than
enough  !

Welcome to the Ex.  Is this your first day of quitting?   Unfortunately, one never works.  It's normal to feel this way right now--ride the crave out and it will pass.  Get busy and get moving.  Go for a walk.  Glad you reached out--we're her for you.
