Remnants of smoking linger.
They linger as memories.
They linger as emotional connections.
They linger as health consequences.
They linger like the EKG pads I keep finding after my procedure.
Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow.
Remnants of smoking linger.

Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow.
Like memories of a sunrise on the ocean beach, with a cuppa' Joe and the first cigarette of the morning?
Romancing the cigarette (and days gone by) is part of our lives now! Remember when we used to go to a club to listen to a band and dance, or go out to a restaurant to eat, or browse through the little privately owned shops in a old, old town?
Unlike the cigarette, I just know they will return but WHEN, I ask?!!
(afraid the hair is actually gone forever, though!)
JonesCarpeDiem... I chuckled at your comment "Hair Today. Gone Tomorrow" , as a retired RN familiar with the EKG leads and the electrode stickers : OUCH!
Also, I love your kitty kat's mask
When l worked in a doc’s office, a patient came in about a week after surgery & he said “Some of those little pads came loose but l taped them on.” I had to leave the room because l KNEW l would burst out laughing.
Too bad no one communicated with him about them...what they were & why they were there...some of us have never had surgery & don't have a clue...what is routine to medical staff may be a totally new experience for the patient..just sayin'
True, l was young, like in my 20’s young. I also had not been in on the surgery & l did not want to embarrass him. Recovery room is supposed to remove those.& usually, what they are is explained pre-operatively. Sorry, l did sound insensitive. Much of surviving as a nurse is dependent upon a sense of humor that is not always sensitive.

That's why I couldn't be a nurse, Ellen. Since I enjoy helping people I signed up to be a Candy Striper in high school. Then two boys had a fight right by my locker while I was standing there. One boy's nose was broken and the blood flew all over my locker door....I got sick just from the sight of it.. there went MY nursing career!!!
I get it, l like helping people too, l was not a fan of blood & guts but l was able to separate from that when l was working. Funny, l can’t even WATCH surgeries being performed on TV these days. Something about being there that makes you focus on whatever needs to be done, FEEL later. I am so happy that l was an RN, l KNOW l made a difference to some people.

Yes they are a part of us...like past hurts, trauma, abuse. But the light can shine through the broken (or bent) places, to paraphrase Leonard Cohen, and the challenges of the past can make or break us, just like an addiction. We overcome it and live triumphantly or we continue to suffer...up to us...
To be always a part of who we are.
Like adhesive that resists all removal.
