As I write this, it's been 23+ hours since my last cigarette. Day one for me has been challenging at times...but it hasn't been terribly difficult to overcome the challenges. I used a nicotine lozenge when I woke up (normally I'd have a cigarette at that time). Then I showered and put on a patch. It's hard to say how much (if any) help the patch gave me, but I never felt any insanely difficult urges...so it certainly hasn't hurt. The morning lozenge was the only I used. I've sucked on some hard candy and chewed a couple pieces of gum...but less of both than I thought I would. I purposely filled my day with work, and after-work, things to do. But I will say...it's been much harder since I got home from work...more urges. My brain is wondering where the cigarettes are...and my chest (lungs?) will burn occasionally. I just have to keep distracting myself...walk the dog, do some laundry, etc. I'm wondering how sleeping will be tonight...and waking up tomorrow. But all-in-all, I'm doing better than I thought I would be. My initial goals are (1) making it through three full days, and (2) making it through seven full days. Of course I have nagging doubts. But nobody can FORCE me to smoke...so it's all in my own hands.
