A Spoonful of Sugar

There are two things I've learned on my quit journey regarding sugar.

1.  In the very beginning of the quit, a little bit of sugar really does help. I've seen this on TV shows when cops are dealing with heroin addicts and they give them orange juice or candy. Like anything, don't overdo and don't do it forever, but in the beginning it calms the cravings just a bit.

2.  Fake sugar does not work the same way.  In fact, according to my doctor, it contributes HEAVILY to the bloated tummy syndrome.  Since she told me that I've cut out all artificial sugars (and learned to drink my coffee unsweetened) and man, do I feel better.

So, when I suggest Tootsie Pops or Twizzlers, it's because of the little bit of sugar that really helps, plus they keep your mouth and hands busy for a few minutes.

I became nicotine-free on Christmas Day 2017. That's what I use as my quit date. I had smoked cigarettes for 45 years, then vaped Juuls for a few months before quitting cold turkey when I used up my supply of pods. I am a retired widow, living in Upstate NY.
