Springtime in the Village

It's a beautiful spring day in Inbetweenerville, that place just after No Man's Land (the desert) and the 6% Exers who make it to a year.  Here we are, breathing in the lovely spring flowers, breathing in deeply because we can now and because man, does it smell good!  Nothing has ever smelled this good ever, for as long as we can remember anyway.  Most of us have smoked our entire adult lives, and even back into our teens.  Did things smell and taste better then?  Who knows?

Strolling leisurely through the village is easy and delightful.  Even the slight inclines don't tire us out anymore.  We can do all the window shopping we want because we don't get winded like we used to.  There are still plenty of benches lining the streets, because after all, some of us are older and need to rest our feet.

We're in that space of approximately 4 months to a year of not smoking, not taking in nicotine in any form.  We are still addicts, we know this, and we are ever vigilant against those memories of smoking and sneaky triggers.  You know what I mean.  All those years of sitting down and lighting up automatically don't just disappear from our consciousness.

For the moment, let it all just wash over you as you take in the sights and sounds and smells of this lovely village.  After the hot sun and scorching sand of the desert, you deserve a respite.  Celebrate the remarkable accomplishment of getting this far!  Accept a refreshing glass of iced tea.  Ahhhh.....

Now that you've rested a bit, get back to work.  There will be plenty more opportunities to rest along the way, but we have to keep moving if we're going to make it to the 6%.  It's off in the distance, just beyond those hills...

I became nicotine-free on Christmas Day 2017. That's what I use as my quit date. I had smoked cigarettes for 45 years, then vaped Juuls for a few months before quitting cold turkey when I used up my supply of pods. I am a retired widow, living in Upstate NY.
