1.5 months quit. going to be stuck with a chain smoker for 2500 km road trip

Hello All,

I have quit smoking 1.5 months back successfully. I a technician by trade is going to do a service trip across the country with a chain smoker in a single cab truck. I am scared if i will relapse into smoking. I have already put sufficient mechanisms in place so that i don't smoke in my apartment or at work. So is it ok if i relapse for 3 days and quit again. Although i do have some urge to smoke i don't really have a continuous urge to smoke these days but to be honest i do feel it would be nice if i could smoke 1.

Please advice?

I agree with everyone above N. O. P. E.  - Not One Puff Ever will give you a beautiful smoke free life because S.I.N.A.O  - Smoking Is Not An Option  - N. E. F.  - Never Ever Forget the early days and wks of quitting smoking, stick with the best gift that you'll ever give yourself which is the gift of LIFE!

If you learn anything here,  learn that there is no such thing as just one puff.  If you doubt us, go to  https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/groups/relapse-prevention and just start reading the material in there.  Here's a good one for your first class:  THE EX ONE PUFF FILES   And if you need more convincing:  http://ffn.yuku.com/search/topic/topic/11388#.WWe_M4QrJ0w

I glad you're concerned about relapsing.  It means your quit has value to you and you want to protect it.  Hold it very very dear, because you and all of us know, it's hard to come by.  Please believe us when we tell you as ex smokers we can't take a puff, or smoke just one.  Because it awakens the nicotine receptors in our brains and simply makes us hunger all over again and return to the slavery that was so hard to break free of.  Stay true to you.  And huge congratulations on your achievement thus far.  Be as tenacious as a wolf with it and never let it go!

If you mean, can you smoke for 3 days and still consider yourself to have been quit for 1 1/2 months, the answer is No.

If you mean, can you smoke for 3 days and then return to your quit without a problem, the answer is also no. Your body chemistry has changed since when you used to smoke. If you smoke again, your addiction will return as strong as it was before you quit in the first place.

Travelling across country in a single cab truck with a chain smoker sounds awful. You quit for a reason. You don't have to succumb to the temptation to smoke just because you will be in a difficult situation. I believe in you; you found this place, didn't you?

Welcome to the community. I guess you got the census from above NOPE (not one puff ever) is the answer. Smoking is not an option (sinao).  Congratulations to you 1 1/2 months being free from the Nico Dude.  You really don't want to start over and be a slave to Nicodemon..Sounds like a horrible having to be confined in a car with a smoker, but remember you don't have to smoke just because they are. I agree with Nancy take lots of things to keep hand and mouth busy. Write your list of reasons why you became a nonsmoker and take them with you and READ READ READ and REPEAT.  List all the benefits you have noticed like smelling better, not having to leave company to go get your fix, how great it is to breathe easier and could keep going but you got the point. Then READ those when the tough get going. You can do it!!!!

ranjitthewolf  Something that MAY help you a little is to realize that the person who is smoking does not "get" to smoke, that person HAS to smoke.  Addiction is an ugly thing, it is progressive and harmful and there is absolutely nothing good about it.  You are on a journey to recovery and you have apparently been doing it all by yourself for a month and a half.  Being a part of this community can really make a huge difference in your quit.  A solid quit keeps on giving, an addiction keeps on taking.

I was smoking for 10 years now. I always stuck to 3 cigarettes a day for the past 10 years. 1.5 months back i was casually smoking and i realised i needed to stop. I went to google and looked at the bible verses which are related to quitting addiction and found a site that recommended John 3 16-17. I then prayed to Jesus to give me the strength to quit and opened the bible randomly and the same page came up.  John 3 1-17. Then i realised this is a sign from god. Quit now or suffer. Threw all the cigrettes out, and cleaned the apartment out. Never looked back.

So you have pledged to your Higher Power that you choose to honor His Creation. Now is the time to respect that decision. You can do this!
