Give and get support around quitting

First day in Ex

Because I'm sure you can all relate please tell me how to beat the following:

almost every day I wake up and say, no more....and everyday I end up at the store almost in desperation and buy a pack.

i stopped for three weeks 2 mths ago using Nicolette gum and it was great. The freedom was such a gift! Then I started feeling like something was missing and I had one.  That one turned into a pack a day! I'm sickened by my lack of self control when it comes to this addiction which I stopped enjoying a long time ago! I am a determined confident woman that has allowed this to dictate where I go etc for far too many years!  I know you're not suppose to say this but truly believe I am incapable of quitting!

Magic bullets?

You want to quit smoking, but you haven't quite learned how.  We can all relate.  We've been right where you are now.  You've come to the right place.  Welcome aboard!

I've found the more you know about beating your addiction to nicotine, the easier it is to quit smoking. And that really is what it is all about. You don't really even want to smoke. Otherwise you wouldn't be here. But you are addicted to nicotine, (all of us here are, or were.)  Once you are on to his nicotine's ways and deceitful lies, you will find it within you to say, "NO MORE." Not One Puff Ever = N.O.P.E.

One of the best ways to get educated, in my opinion, is to read the Allen Carr book, The Easy Way To Quit Smoking.   You can find a link to the free online version here.  I also recommend doing the tasks outlined on this site in preparation for your quit, (even if you've already begun your quit,) because the first couple weeks, as you probably know already, are not what most people call fun, (sorry Mr. Carr.) But if you've planned ahead what you will do instead of smoking, since you won't be doing that anymore, you will get through.  Once you beat the addiction, you will still need to master the old associations we wove with dopamine highs.  It is a process.  It is a journey.  The only way to the other side, to the freedom of living smoke-free, is through. You can do this!

There are a handful of members here we all affectionately refer to as Elders; folks with sturdy, steady quits under their belts that hang around simply to help newbies like you along. Read their blogs, take their advice, trust them. They are wise, and they mean well.

Then, hang around here as much as you can.  Whine, cry, scream, (wait! hit the brakes! SCREEEEEECH!!!  What am I saying?) Laugh, giggle, smile and dance your way through this journey.  It really is, as much as anything else, how you look at it. You are not giving up anything. You are gaining everything, from a healthier body, to increased wealth,to greater self-esteem, to a whole new awakening on life! It truly is freedom and it's yours for the taking. Sometimes I wonder if it is not better to be an Ex-smoker than a Never-smoked. You enjoy the same freedoms as they, but having been a slave to the addiction for so many days, you appreciate the freedom so much more.

So welcome aboard. We are all here to walk this journey with you. Educate, prepare, commit, and then quit. It really is as simple as that.

No magic bullets, but I hear ya. I was there as most all of us were. We thought it impossible.

Soon, someone will be along to send you links to read. Read them all.

Successful quits are more likely to happen if you understand the monster Nicotine....and the 900 other some chemicals in one smoke that keep us trapped. Once you begin to really see how the chemicals keep you prisoner, you will have a strong chance of breaking free...and let me tell you, its a beautiful thing.

It does not mean theres an easy way out. You will have some uncomfortable days in the beginning, but you need to go through to get the breakthrough. Thats one reason we are here. For you. We have been there done that. We will help you when you can't help yourself or figure something out. Ultimately the choice to smoke is yours, but we can help build you up so you make a better choice. Freedom.

I read Allen Carrs Book 'The easy way to quit smoking'. ...it was a Godsend for me....along with this site of amazing people who built me up and kept me accountable and strong.

I wish I knew how to send links, I really need to figure that out. But as I said, someone will.

You can do this, we will help you. Blog often, and do your homework  ( read). Welcome to EX!

Welcome Poly! Do read Alan Carr's book it was very helpful for me in understanding this addiction making my quit journey much easier. Do come and join us on this journey we are here for you. No magic to offer you and no magic needed. I made a commitment to myself so smoking no longer was an option for me I had to find other things to do and other ways to deal with that "emptiness" and that "something is missing" feeling.

No magic bullets.  Quitting takes work and commitment along with the willingness that no matter what you are not going to smoke.  Education is the key to a successful quit.  So on that note is a  little information to help you get on the right track.

Read: Freedom from Nicotine My Journey Home and Nicotine Addiction 101

Here are the links: http://whyquit.com/whyquit/LinksAAddiction.html   and http://whyquit.com/ffn/

Howdy.  And Welcome.  So many days I can also remember awakening and thinking to myself "Today's the day...."  And it never happened because the need for that cigarette was greater than I could overcome.  I'd last a couple of hours and then like the slave I was, trot off to the nearest store and plunk down that money and suck up the next little killer.

This addiction is interesting.  Although intellectually we know that smoking is bad for us, and if we wait long enough to quit we'll actually begin to suffer and feel the affects of that intellectual knowledge (which happens to be the truth) - it's only when we grasp it emotionally that we can begin to conquer it.

The main key to solving this addiction is education.  And that's really two types of education:  intellectual and emotional.  The first is simply understanding the addiction.  For when you grasp WHY you smoke physically, that it's all a chemical inducement - you begin to grasp the simplicity of the need and the means of overcoming it.  The more difficult aspect is coming to grips with the emotional and behavioral connection to it.  Spending time studying the plan offered here is the first step.  And reading the blogs of the people in the support community is the second step of the educational process.  My point is - the more informed you are on all levels, the better able you will be to beat this addiction, and experience the freedom you so enjoyed for those times that you have.

No, there is no magic bullet.  Sorry.  Or, actually I would say the magic bullet would have to be education.  If you read the blogs of those on the /blogs/Giulia-blog/2017/05/01/elders-list-ao-december-7-2016?sr=search&searchId=54418d8e-2342-45e5-a...‌ and study their journeys from their Day One's, you will find that many speak of education about the addiction over and over again as the main tool for overcoming this beast.

What you believe is what will be true for you.  If you believe you are incapable of quitting - I guarantee you will fulfill that destiny.  I believe you ARE capable of quitting.  And so do many others here.  Part of the education we teach is to throw out old beliefs and embrace new ones.  Open your mind to the possibility of a new you.  Many of us thought we could never quit, just like you do.  SURPRISE!!!  WE DID!

(Pssst - you wouldn't be here if you really didn't believe you couldn't quit....  think about it!)
