What does a champion icon mean, and how is it acquired? Do you think you could put up a legend somewhere with explanations? I think that would be helpful, and would offer a little more clarification to what one is seeing here on the site. I mean if we aren't supposed to know what they mean...then why have them here at all?

It is just a pop-up label that is affixed when we added the role stickers to the respective profiles. Perhaps in the future I'll be able to give them labels that relate to the roles. We had one for the baristas but didn't launch that one since the EX Cafe closed down yesterday.
