Having hard time

I quit 5 months ago but the urges are so bad I'm afraid I'm not going to make it.

Welcome to EX...where have you been the last 5 months and what have you been doing to stay quit?  This is a journey, my friend, there are no shortcuts.  We all have to do our homework and then keep doing it and keeping our quits one day at a time. Hotshor5528‌ I don't know anything about you or your journey but I can tell you that we are all here to help and that we want very much for you to be successful in your quit.

Stick very close to this site, and read read read all the awesome info our Elders on here are giving us!  I knew also what smoking could do to my health, but it wasn't until I really understood the Addiction part of all of this, that I could finally quit and get through it one day at a time!  Stay close and blog!

You have 5 months of freedom!!  Please don't give in to that niggling little voice that says you want one!

We are all here for you!  Please get some ice water, or take a shower or read a book, but keep yourself distracted.

I find doing puzzles helps.  Deep breathing, whatever it takes to get you through it.

Please don't give up on me. I have COPD STAGE 4. There are no more stages. I have to stay smoke free. I don't know how much longer I have,  but I want to stretch it as long as I can. Even with this weight on my sholder I'm still having trouble. I feel like I'm a hopeless case. I have a large family but they just don't seem to understand. I'm hoping here I will find the support to stay smoke free. And maybe I can give support to anyone who will listen.  So I'm 5 months and counting. I haven't figured the site out yet, but I'm working on it.  Thank you for listening.

Quitting smoking is the best thing to do for COPD. 5 months is a long time but how long did you smoke? Many of us here smoked for 30 or 40 years. The urges will get fewer and fewer in time. Be proud of your accomplishment and have faith because it will get better. You have made it through the toughest time already.

You HAVE to make it.  You HAVE to hold on.  Period.  Smoking cannot be an option for you.  Not any more.  Not with Stage 4 COPD.    You must close the door on the possibility of smoking.   And you do that by accepting your choice to not smoke.  https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/message/30751-the-possibility-door

Hotshor5528‌ Just so you know, there is not one person on this site who is going to give up on you...not ONE  We all want very much for you to be successful.  We have been where you are, struggling and thinking we cannot possibly make it.  You have a great deal to stay quit FOR...stay quit for YOU!  YOU are worth it, you are worth every uncomfortable moment you may go through, it WILL get easier and smoking will do nothing FOR you, only TO you...clearly, you already know that.  Stay as close as you can to the site, read blogs, write blogs, play around...it is the playing around that will help you to find your way.  I am not exactly a tech savvy person and I am taking my exploring on this site the same way as I am taking my quit...one day at a time.  Reach out to other EX'ers, read what they have written, go to their pages and read what they have written and how they get through things.  I am sorry your family is not more supportive but please remember that YOU own your quit and you are the one who has to take care of it, one BREATH at a time.  I have COPD, had both of my upper lobes surgically removed in November of 2015, shortness of breath and fatigue are my constant companions along with chronic pain.  If I can do this, and make no mistake, I AM doing this, ANYONE can.

Wishing you all of the best,

Ellen

You do have the strength to do this. You don't HAVE to smoke. That's something smokers do.

This is all about choice...make the right one.

Keep on keepin on,

M n @
