Give and get support around quitting

Hi. Today is my first day and I've already failed!

I feel like such a failure. I went yesterday to a Hypnotist, and spent $175 for 2 sessions. 1st one yesterday and my 2nd one is on Thursday. I am supposed to be quit for 48 hours before my 2 one and I've had 3 cigs today. I feel so crappy. Like a complete and utter failure. I've tried EVERYTHING. Chantix, Wellbutrin, cold turkey, patches, gum. NOTHING has worked. I guess I'm going to have to call my hypnotist and reschedule my 2nd appt. *sigh* I HATE CIGARETTES with a passion but I can't stay away from them. I'm planning on having bariatric surgery in May or June, but I have to be 2 mos free of nicotine before they will do it. I don't know what else to do. Why isn't this sticking in my brain! Why do I keep doing this to myself! I honestly think the only way I'm going to quit is if someone is with me (holding my hand) every minute of every day. Ugh!

Nothing - I mean nothing can quit for you.  All of these things that you have tried are aids.  There is no magic potion.  You have to make the decision to quit - no one can make it for you.  Also, it is more difficult to smoke if you don't have any cigarettes around.

Try reading this book by Alan Carr - it helps some people get their head in the right place. Just click on the clink below.

THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO freakin much!!!!!!! I'm on Chapter 4 already. I thought it would be hard to understand or that my ADD would interfere but I'm enjoying the book so far.

td, I did not quit cold turkey as Alan Carr supports in his book, but what I learned from him is helping so much as I now wear my patches: my whole outlook has changed due to his writings Stick with the book, read it to the end, and note that if you choose to you can keep on smoking until the end of the book! In fact, Mr, Carr urges that~ Wishing you the best!!

It probably isn't sticking because you are expecting something ELSE to quit FOR you.  Those aids you listed are to help you deal first with the psychological associations and triggers.  BUT -- my guess is that you are not working to do that.  Figure out what they are, plan what you will do instead of smoke and then DO them.  The NRT's allow you to concentrate on these before you tackle the physical addiction to nicotine.  Smoking affects your mind and body in complex ways......

And - when you fail, have you spent some time figuring out what was going on at that time?  Were you hungry, angry, lonely, tired, frustrated, stressed?  When you figure out that, you can devise ways to deal with them without smoking.  Perhaps go for a quick walk, or take slow/deep breaths, or call a friend, or sing out loud to your favorite music.

I can tell you that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.  You need to change how you are going about this - and come here and blog "HELP" before you smoke.  We can help if you ask for it.

You can be successful but you must have the right mindset, be willing, determined and totally committed to quit smoking, read everything you can about quitting smoking and Remaining Quit because there's a wealth of information here to strengthen your resolve but you must believe that you can quit and stick to it no matter what is happening in life, quitting smoking is definitely difficult but it's also very Doable and worth it all to be FREE ! tdtstarr

Don't beat yourself up. What is done is done.

i kept thinking WHY am I smoking? No big answer there. Then I read every time you put out a smoke you begin a quit. Lighting another is your choice. Awesome thought: MY CHOICE! Wait I am addicted, wait it is MY CHOICE. I told the Cig store clerk I was buying my last pack and I won't be back. I thought of the negatives of smoking, I thought cigs get me nothing positive. Why was I married to cigs? When did they become my buddy? How long am I going to continue to hurt me?

i admit I was scared to quit. No quit aid was helping. But when the day came I said smoking does nothing good for me and I am worth starting something good for me.

YOU ARE WORTH IT. When you are ready is YOUR choice. Just keep trying 1 minute at a time. I admit days 1 to 4 I ate crap food constantly but that ended once I could smell my life without smoke.

You will be so very happy once you put yourself in first place. You are worth it.
