Your Questions Regarding Site Maneuver-fication In One Place?

Lazy Me

The site seems to change every day (for the better) as they try to improve it based on our questions and suggestions but, as such, I am still confused.

The first or second day I suggested they put a video on youtube of how to get around the new site in relationship to the functions of the old site.      They put out a request for people who were willing to participate and make this happen and I volunteered to do a video of my screen and my voice on how to do this.

I had originally planned to start on my profile page and show how to get around your own content, etc

Some of these things are becoming second nature as the days go on.

I understand there are things we aren't going to have, like a message board on our content pages. GET OVER IT!  Yes, I will miss it as thought it was great personal interaction and people could get to know your personality outside your blog.

I am asking for your input as to where you get lost and be as specific as you can please. And be quick about it. I'm supposed to do this in 7 hours.

I may suggest we delay making the video for a week or so too.

🙂

Great explanation!

Daniela2016‌ it has to have the contact card icon to mention you.  If you use https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/blogs/Daniela-3-11-2016-blog?sr=search&searchId=fec61f9d-21cc-496...‌ it will mention your blog ( a Place) Instead of your profile and you may not necessarily get a notification if you've turned notifications to mentions of your blog off.

elvan‌ , Daniela2016‌ has it explained beautifully, for Mark's name, I had to put ex in front of his name with the @ in front ugh but that's the only way I could get it to highlight, so many steps to get things done, oh well!

I also can't use the @mark feature, but must use (at) ex, then scroll down to find his name on the list.  I'm sure the bug is driving the techies CRAZYI! The at (@) feature is great, except it's also a little onerous.  I'm hoping that the more Jive gets accustomed to the people we "at" reference, the more likely it will be to present the option we're looking for and not the five million other potential references.  Jive learns from what WE do on the site, I believe.  Or maybe it's like Google and goes even further and personalizes our particular individual choices.  Who knows!    MarilynH‌  I find it extraordinary that you can so easily remember that Daniela explained it so beautifully.  Did you bookmark it? I don't remember who the heck's said what on here as far as valuable information to cling to.  That's part of my frustration.  I read something that someone's said in a response and I either have to copy it and put it in a separate file to come back to, OR, what I've just learned - is that you can copy the time stamp from that comment (but of course you have to be ON the real document and not viewing it  from your in box.)  Bookmarking only bookmarks the conversation itself, not the individual response.  If there are 64 responses, I'm not going to wade through all of them to find the one I needed.  This is complicated stuff.  Too complicated.  It needs to be simplified!   I mean, really.  How in hell does a new member figure out what to do if they're as computer illiterate as so many of us are on here.  And I'm not that computer illiterate and I'm STILL confused as all get out.  MOO

Giulia‌ I was on my phone earlier so I couldn't test bookmarking thoroughly.  Back to my computer now.

It's true you can't bookmark a permalink (direct link to a specific piece of content) to Daniela's helpful comment. I've used quite a few community platforms and I can't think of one that you can. If it did, I probably wouldn't use it because I rely heavily on "search" to locate and reference previous helpful/correct answers. Search is often under utilized.

You can bookmark to the original post though. If you have tagged the answer as helpful (if you're not the author of the question) or correct (if you are the author of the question) then you can click the "Helpful" button (red circle below) in the bottom of the original post to see what responses you have indicated as such OR you'll see the correct answer referenced at the top of the page.

For the ones with Helpful Answers, then you can click the red text (as found in red rectangle) to take you to the actual comment you marked as helpful.

bookmarking-permalinks.png

This should auto scroll you and in the URL field you will see a new url with the Comment level URL.  You can then copy and paste this URL into any other question/discussion/blog you are commenting into then have a link right to a specific response.  I'll do it here: https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/thread/6293-your-questions-regarding-site-maneuver-fication-in-on...  as an example. See how it says "...#comment-7145"

You can also @mention a comment by using underscores from the comment text  "@ellen_you_can_use" (see red arrow below) to get a link to Daniela's response. https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/message/71456-re-your-questions-regarding-site-maneuver-fication-...‌ (see red box below).

I realize this doesn't solve your issue as you expect it but hopefully it does give you the resources to find what you're looking for.

Let me know if you have further questions.

Thanks Mark‌  Just knowing how the "helpful" button functions is helpful.  Had no idea that clicking on the Helpful Outcomes would enumerate each.  I think the easiest way, for me however, would be to simply copy the time stamp and paste it into a Helpful file on my computer.

Giulia‌ ,I just happened to be on line and saw Daniela's post i believe that I was the first to comment on it and it was written beautifully but I didn't book mark it or anything. I couldn't tell you how to find it now because I wouldn'thave a clue! You are so right about things being way too complicated and at times stressful trying to get around to help people and we don'twant to scare anyone away we want them to come in and be there for them and their quit, we want to make their quit easier not more stressful and frustrating, their quits and our quits is vital to our health and well being.

MarilynH‌ another way I got it to mention me more easily is to do @community and then I should be at the top of the list of people in the pop up. Hope this helps elvan‌ and Giulia‌ until it gets fixed by Jive.

@ community works, but @ ex takes less time to type. But thanks for the alternate.

elvan‌ you can either use the @ on keyboard or in toolbar but then you have to select from the list as Daniela2016‌ explains.  If you just put @mark it won't work as you're not confirming a given person or that you were actually trying to mention. There can't be a space after the @ symbol either.

Hopefully mentioning me me will be simpler soon.  Sorry!
