Your Questions Regarding Site Maneuver-fication In One Place?

Lazy Me

The site seems to change every day (for the better) as they try to improve it based on our questions and suggestions but, as such, I am still confused.

The first or second day I suggested they put a video on youtube of how to get around the new site in relationship to the functions of the old site.      They put out a request for people who were willing to participate and make this happen and I volunteered to do a video of my screen and my voice on how to do this.

I had originally planned to start on my profile page and show how to get around your own content, etc

Some of these things are becoming second nature as the days go on.

I understand there are things we aren't going to have, like a message board on our content pages. GET OVER IT!  Yes, I will miss it as thought it was great personal interaction and people could get to know your personality outside your blog.

I am asking for your input as to where you get lost and be as specific as you can please. And be quick about it. I'm supposed to do this in 7 hours.

I may suggest we delay making the video for a week or so too.

🙂

Yes it is being difficult for some when mentioning my name.  Jive is looking into it.

elvan‌ and Mark‌ It was me that advised Ellen that her post would be more visible to her friends if she posted it in the blogs or conversations. No one had commented and it wasn't because people didn't care - it was because no one knew that it was there.  I don't understand how this is supposed to work.  The only way that I know of to see these if I am not mentioned is to go to each individual profile page to read these status updates.  The status updates work well for one-to-one correspondence if you @mention someone but to correspond with the entire community a blog or discussion works better. Please advise Mark.

Yes it status updates are not good for questions. They're more just for telling something unless you're asking specific people and not the community at-large.  You should include an @mention if you're asking specific people. Furthermore, Someone else might have the same question so asking in https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/community/conversations?sr=search&searchId=458a8a44-ca67-44fd-92e...‌ or https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/community/community-help?sr=search&searchId=872cdaee-faf3-4c69-bd...‌ is best so that others benefit from responses provided as well.

Status updates are only seen on the home page in the Recently Active Conversations widget or on the user's profile.  If you follow a person or have them in a My EX Feed stream you may see them there as well.

Status updates are good for some things but they do have their weaknesses as well. Asking a question is best in https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/community/conversations?sr=search&searchId=458a8a44-ca67-44fd-92e...‌ or https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/community/community-help?sr=search&searchId=872cdaee-faf3-4c69-bd...‌ though you may find asking in a Social group may help as well if there is one related to the topic at hand.

I'm not leaving because there is no message board. 🙂

As the site seems to change daily, perhaps you can tell us what has changed as things are changed?

Most recent changes are indicated here: /blogs/Mark-blog/2017/01/31/thanks-for-your-initial-feedback

There have also been some other minor tweaks that are barely noticeable.  If we make any major changes I'll be sure to highlight them in a blog post.

I am curating things and moving them around to their proper place. No huge structure changes at this point.

Hi Dale,

If I write a message (blog, start a discussion, question, whatever) I still don't know how to link to more than one place.

I am sure there is a simple answer, but I figured you can teach one (like me how to do it).

Daniela2016‌ Content can only be placed in one place.  It can't be listed in more than one place at a time.

I also volunteered to help and do some video tutorials but asked to delay because of time constraints, but also because I'm still confused myself in how to get around the place in the most expeditious manner.  They want us to "teach it the way we do it," but I haven't yet figured out the BEST way for myself to do it.  Ultimately we each want to find the easiest and quickest way to navigate the site.  Time is precious.  On the old platform we could much more easily explain how to navigate.  With all the additional options and choices that Jive offers, I find it makes things MORE confusing rather than less.  Simple is sometimes better.

Also, I haven't yet determined what's the most important thing within the community to view first.  Should I go to the blogs, the train, the conversations, the questions, the EX feed, my inbox.....  Ultimately it depends on where I think I might be most needed (as an Elder).  And also what I personally find "fun."  It would obviously be different for someone just joining the community.

For myself, I want to be completely familiar with what I'm doing before trying to offer a tutorial to someone else.  And familiarity takes experiential and experimental time.  And certainly it takes a goodly degree of comfort (as you put it, JonesCarpeDiem‌ "second natureness."  Well, not EXACTLY your words.  lol

If you allow maneuver-ification, I guess anything goes.  🙂
