Confused about Likes & Helpful

Jump to solution

When does the  "helpful" icon present itself on a blog or conversation?  I don't mean on the "replies" (it's there on all of them).  I mean on the blog/conversation itself.  Sometimes I see it, most times I don't.   I'm not speaking of  the "helpful" Outcomes  shown.  If I want to mark a blog or conversation itself as "helpful"  - why is that not a consistent link available across all authored posts?  Is it only available when it's an admin/EX team post at a time when particular feedback is desired?    For example in the "Document,"  "Let’s Talk About Leaderboards!" Event Summary‌ at the bottom there's...

Helpful.png

Yet on the "Discussion" Why do we see Old Blogs in the Recent Blogs list?‌, for example there is no green "Helpful" button available.

It would be beneficial, I think, if the Conversation/Blog  itself had a "helpful" button (just as it has a "Like" button).  We may "like" a joke blog, for example, but it may not necessarily be helpful.  On the other hand there may be one that has valuable information to someone's quit which the person could mark as helpful.

And "Most Liked" must refer to the amount of random "likes" overall of the various responses unrelated to the Likes noted under the header.  If you count all the "Likes" under the replies in Why do we see Old Blogs in the Recent Blogs list?  they add up to 9.  But under the header it shows "Likes 2."  Is there any way to separate out (filter) the "liked" original content vs the "liked" replies, I wonder?

Also, I notice that sometimes it says "I also have this question" and sometimes it doesn't.  I assume it's because a definitive "answer" (with the green checkmark) has been placed?

It's a document. Documents can be marked as helpful or not helpful. Discussions/questions/blogs don't have this designation as the majority of the content is likely in the comments/replies. Certainly for our community you may feel differently but for most online communities, it's in the replies of questions/discussions.  Blogs are more about telling a story so people either like it or they don't.

Yet on the "Discussion" Why do we see Old Blogs in the Recent Blogs list?, for example there is no green "Helpful" button available.

This is a question. The Helpful question appears in the replies/comments.

Our use-case for the community is unique.  It's not something we'd likely be able to customize to our use case to add helpful buttons to Blogs/Discussions/Root post.

Most liked under "outcomes" refers to the comment with the most likes.  In that question I see one that has 4 likes as of the moment I posted this. There are apparently other posts that have been liked.  Since you said 9 there are other comments that have 3 or fewer likes a piece collectively adding up to 5. Four posts had been marked helpful as noted by the Helpful (4) button also under "outcomes".

Also, I notice that sometimes it says "I also have this question" and sometimes it doesn't.  I assume it's because a definitive "answer" (with the green checkmark) has been placed?

Yes, while a question is unanswered it has that option so that we can see which questions "the community" most wants to know about.  In some communities the community manager may leave questions to be answered by the community if they haven't reached a threshold. Others it may help elders/experts/question responders in the community focus on the questions with that will help the most people before responding to other questions.

Thank you.  I think I "get" it.

Found these two comments particularly helpful:

Documents can be marked as helpful or not helpful. Discussions/questions/blogs don't have this designation

Most liked under "outcomes" refers to the comment with the most likes.

The most helpful answer is certainly dynamic.  So it could change over time as helpful is designated by different people reading the thread.  Additionally, the community may find one answer more helpful than the original author.  Or the original author of a question might use the most helpful to determine what the correct answer for them is.

It's helpful to the community if the original author designates the correct answer as questions with answers will stick out in the search results when people look for an answer.

If a question has received multiple replies and the original author doesn't designate a correct answer then the system might mark the question as "assumed answered". An admin/moderator can also set this designation if they cannot determine what the answer is but it appears that an answer is likely contained within the question's comments.

As mentioned previously,  with the old community some people put their list of resources on their profile.  Now we have documents, Documents can be used to collect everything that is important in your quit journey to share with others.  Then as you support people across the site you can reference your Quit Journey Document to point people to the helpful resources you have collected.  They can then designate your document as helpful to them or leave comments if something doesn't make sense.

I would like to request that the blogs have both like and helpful is it possible to add it Mark ?

Helpful relates only to questions. It's not possible to add to Blogs.
