I found you all yay!!! Well i get lost fast lately on here.....I Know i'll get the hang of where i'm going it will get easyer as i go... i hope...so one Question i do have i don;t really know where i belong.... i am on 142 days free. At the point where i don't know what to do i don't really know what to say in a blog anymore. any suggestions of how i can help... are what i should read i do still get the urge some times to smoke but i know thats a GREAT BIG NO NO...so how can i help if i still get the urge to you know that awful word that i won't say any more but what to do???  anyone ?

Hello All---I am so late the Cafe is probably closed. AND----let me just say I am SLOW and have not had much time to explore around the new site-------so, perhaps you already all have this info.........

That being said, I noticed tonight that new members are posted at the bottom of the HOME page on the right. And, now that the "following ban" has been lifted (yes it WAS a ban and yes it WAS lifted!) we can message the new people. I have sent a sort of standard message to them inviting them to the Cafe. Please join me if you have not already reached out to them. And, if you have...so sorry. As I said...I am slow.  while we are exploring and learning we can't forget why we are really here. I feel like the newbis can' t find us........so, in case that's true, we need to find them.

i'm on 142 days smoke free what do u do when you hit 100's....i want to help people but yet i still get the urge i  do read what i can but what else can i do?

First, let me say Congratulations on being 142 days into your recovery, that is an amazing accomplishment! 

Don't worry about helping people (even though by reading their stories, and sharing yours with them or try to guide them through earlier days of their quit is a constant reminder for you of how far you've come on your own path and actually helping you with your own urges). 

Your main concern is to nurture your quit, and use all the tools your put in your tool box for these times. 

Do you exercise at all; any kind of physical activity helps release dopamine (the feel good hormone), even if it is just a short walk.  Did you pick up a new hobby?  I'll give you my example: I love to bake and used to do it very often till I got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, so I had to stop. I went out and got coloring books and crayons, and sharpies, and started coloring.  I also like to knit, and while AZ does not have the long/cold winters, I did manage to help mom finish a sweater for her. It does not have to be too expensive or complicated, just to keep you busy for these times when you feel the cravings coming.  Change what you do at that time, move away from the spot where you are when the urge is taking you by surprise.

Learn to meditate.  Practice deep breathing, this helped me a lot.  It is almost like smoking, without the toxic effect. If you start counting your heartbeats at the moment the urge it hitting, and start deep breathing, you will notice your pulse go down, your heart relax, and the urge will pass. 

It is all about moving the thought away from you.  You no longer have the physical addiction, the "urge" is just a thought about smoking.  Chase it away with whatever method works for you. 

And do not worry too much, you will soon be out of No Man's Land, and the urges will no longer be so frequent, or so demanding, they will space out. 

I hope you got some ideas, sorry it took a while, my laptop decided to re-starts in order to apply some updates and did not wait for my approval...
