There are several ways to slow down the inbox notifications also. If you have commented on a blog you can either go to that blog and check unfollow. Or in the message top right click no new activity. Also you can check those as read. That will help keep it cleaned up. It takes a little getting use to. Click on your pic, choose preferences and under Notification Preferences, choose No for email notifications. This stopped ALL email notifications coming to my email.
