This is how you get back on track:  Any cigarettes in the house, get rid of them.  From this day forward, whoever you know smokes, tell them never give you a cigarette no matter how you whine for it.  Find out what made you smoke after 30 days and come up with a plan of what you're going to do next time it comes up, because trust me, it will come up again.  Here's some food for thought:  https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/message/30666-did-you-plan-your-relapse Stay close.  type the words help into a blog and someone will come running.  Sometimes just keeping a notebook by you and writing down what's going on helps until the urge or situation passes....... you can do this.  Develop your game plan.  If this happens, I will do _______

I won't give you advice but I will give you a perspective.

The patch doesn't keep you from thinking of smoking.

The patch doesn't keep you from smoking.

If it did, you wouldn't have smoked.

I used 10 patches and didn't put any emphasis on what they were doing. I trusted they were doing what they were supposed to do.

My 4th day, I forgot to put one on and I went without it. I knew it was 10 minutes away

The following week when I forgot to wear one two days in a row,I stopped using them;

That was over 10 years ago.

It was not the patch that kept me quit for 10 years.

It was not willpower that kept me quit for 10 years.

It was realizing

The patch doesn't keep you from thinking of smoking.

The patch doesn't keep you from smoking.

I kept one in my wallet for my entire first year with the promise I would put it on rather than smoke.

Nicotine makes you want nicotine

This is the hardest part of the quit:  if you think you'll fail, you will. Don't allow yourself to think that way.

Seriously, you can do it. I'm so glad you reached out. Quitting sucks, but it can't be THAT bad, or millions of us wouldn't do it.

I didn't use patches  but it makes sense to me to just start again on the strength you were using.

Take a moment, too, to think about what caused you to make that decision to smoke and make a plan now for what you will do differently next time the same circumstance/emotion happens.

This really is quite simple!  You make the decision not to smoke another cigarette NO MATTER WHAT and you honor that decision.

You can't win an argument with yourself about it - so don't have it!

You CAN do this!  I have faith in you.

The sooner you quit and stay that way, the faster your recovery will go.  No cigarettes, lighters, ashtrays, or other smoking paraphernalia in the house, make it HARD to smoke and make getting rid of smoking materials a "ritual", dowse them in water crumble them up, tell them they are no longer in charge.  I never used the patch, I quit cold/smart turkey.  I would say you keep going as if you never smoked but I am not sure that's the best advice.  No one can MAKE you smoke anymore than anyone can make you quit.  We all want to help but you have to take the steps one at a time.
