Give and get support around quitting
Hi,
Ive been a smoker since I was 14 (36 years) on and off but typically on. 1 pack a day. The second week is always the hardest and I’m on day 9. I’ve always used smoking to celebrate a task done and to think about and start a new task. I’m trying to find a behavior I can do that doesn’t involve eating something that I can do to sit quietly and regroup that lasts about 5 minutes. I can only drink so much tea (I know coffee is a trigger so I’m not having that now) and file my nails so often. Please help me with identifying something I can do.....

How about taking a few slow/deep breaths - following this example?
Or playing a computer/phone game? Or relaxing while looking out the window at the clouds/sky/trees?
Or just spending a few moments in meditation? Or marching in place (if your activity was sedentary)?
Or doing some reading here on the site? Or spending a few minutes on a crossword or jigsaw puzzle?
Play solitaire or some other game on the computer?
If you don't have any on your computer--or you don't know how to find them--here are some online sites that are free and safe. I've spent hours on them in the past. None require a User ID and password (unless you want to save your stats):
Miniclip (by far the largest variety and collection)
Games at Miniclip.com - Play Free Online Games
Bored-dot-com
Klondike Solitaire
Klondike Solitaire - Green Felt
Free Rice (A word game where just by playing you buy rice through a the World Food Programme)
Multi-Card Game site (never used but it looks good)
I am the same way!!. I have been doing coloring ...something I enjoy also painting, if you have a hobby u don't do much....this is a gr8 time to pick it up!! Hope you figure out what works for you!! Time for a new reward.!!
Stop and find a quiet place and just let your mind wander to beautiful places you would like to go and see and you can really smell the clean air. And enjoy it to the fullest. This has helped me to relieve the stress and keep me on track to never smoke again. Hopefully this helps.
Playing video games helped me and when I take a break from a task, I come to the Ex instead of smoking.

Learn a language with Duolingo....it is also a game and takes 5 minutes a day...~ Colleen
Great advise up above, just want to congratulate you on your quit. Keep it coming.
I was the same way - I smoked after each task. I guess it was kind of a reward. I also stayed away from coffee the first couple of weeks. I don’t know if I found that perfect replacement but as others said I come here to check out new posts, or go to the game section and do a game. Sorry but that’s about all I have but something must be working since I am on day 66. Hope you find something.
