Give and get support around quitting

Is this chest/lung discomfort normal and how long does it last? Thinking about the discomfort is triggering me and heightening my anxiety. Please tell me it’s normal

This is my third day of my 8th attempt and I don’t remember having this. Thanks so much.

We are asked this often ... we can’t say it is normal because we aren’t medical Doctors...you should call your Doctor and tell him/her you quit smoking and your symptoms, it is better to be safe then sorry.  I had lung pain when I quit smoking and I attributed it to all the chemicals in cigarettes.  However, it got worse and I ended up with “upper respiratory infection”...keep us posted...keep close to us for support. ~ Colleen 660 DOF

I am going to agree with my friends above and I believe so will everyone else on this site......we are here to support you not diagnose you.....and pain in your chest should always be reported to a doctor.

However, in support, I will say do not let pain or discomfort from quitting make you smoke.....that is the backward thinking we all used to have. If you are scared about chest pain...the last thing you want to do is smoke a cigarette. Call your doctor, follow their advice, stay strong and stay quit. We are here for you

I am in total agreement with all the above.  Go to the doctor, even if it's scary for you.  It's better to have the doctor check you out and get proper treatment.  *hugs*.  We are here for you, for emotional support.  Thank you Sootie‌, sweetplt‌, and indingrl‌.  You are amazing people!   OojanicitaoO‌ please call your doctor.  If you don't have one, please get a primary care physician, it makes a big difference in your health.

Other quitters have experienced this, but check with your doctor if for no other reason, than for peace of mind.

Congrats on 3 days smoke free.

First off - yes - go see a doctor.  It is the best thing you can do.  That is the advice I got here.  My journey is only a little over 100 days in.  Please check out the links below.  Some of the things you are experiencing were also experienced by me.  I did go see a doctor (as you will see in the links) and it was good good good!

Am I right to be scared?

I had terrible chest pain and tightness at first. I called it lung pain. It went away after awhile.

I'm with the rest above... we're not doctors nor do we play one on the internet.  Go see a real one and enjoy the kudos for quitting smoking!!   Chest pain is nothing to fool around with, ever.

That said, keep in mind that ANY negative feelings or symptoms that are actually caused by quitting are TEMPORARY.  The benefits are PERMANENT and on-going and ever increasing.  I say that in appreciation with 8 years of smoke freedom... It just gets better.

Keep your quit, and see your doc!     .  Do let us know how it turns out.

Many quitters complain of this. But that isn't the final say. Your Doc is exists to rule in or rule out potential problems. As a quitter, I had to learn to do things that made me feel uncomfortable without smoking...like go to a doctor!!! Congratulations on three days!
