Day One - Take 3

Good morning all, here I go again. I am not getting down on myself for this being my third try, I am staying positive and getting this done!!! I hate the feeling of quitting hanging over my head so it is time to tackle this full force once and for all! I am 100% committed to this quit. I had 20 days in the first time around and relapsed. This time I am in it for life! I want to be around to see my kids have kids and to love on them all the time. I don't want to be a smoker anymore. I am taking back my life, it started last night at midnight when I broke my last two Marlboro Lights. I AM DONE!!!

It is a beautiful, sunny, fall day here in Northwest Ohio. I am seriously considering leaving work early so I can feel the sun on my face and the cool breeze in my lungs. Thanks for all the support I get here, even when I fail.

OK.  Sounds like your serious this time.   Did you update your quit plan?   And, I know we keep repeating this--reach out before you smoke.

You can dig deep and hard on your quit without being hard on yourself and you will have to be particularly hard on making the choice not to smoke to be quit or there will be a take 4 Jen . My faith in you is strongfast. Holdfast your quit . Post before your smoke if you can't stop yourself ..... you'd be surprised what a difference it makes .  You decide your way through your crave . We are here for each other .

i struggled you've struggled m many of us have struggled together , we've had to get tough on addiction not on ourselves . We just have to know our goal and do what we think we can't do , get through the craves every single time . I know you can do that too . I just found a neat meme . It might be helpful for us all quitting or quit to visualize what going back to smoking looks like and it causes nothing but unhappiness .

Choose happiness          Don't smoke          Post          Get through

Einstein is quoted as saying, "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result."

What will you do differently THIS time?  If you didn't read Allen Carr or other information linked about this addiction, will you do it differently and read it now?  Will you make a plan ahead of time what you can do when the going gets tough and you gave in before, and write it down so it's easy to get to?  Might you blog "HELP" here before you light up?  Might you call a friend, or take a walk, or a shower?

The better educated and prepared you are, the higher your chances of success!

Help yourself and then let US help you make this your final Day One!

I will not stop to any carry outs that sell smokes. It is too tempting and I just am not strong enough. I did read Allen Carr's book and didn't feel like I got much out of it, the connection just wasn't there. I will come here if I ever want to stop at a carry out!!!

I'm another one that's not a big Allen Carr fan.  I learned a few things, but it wasn't instrumental in my quit.  I disagree with the main premise that it's easy.

Take what helps leave the rest .

I too was not inspired by Alan Carr but I'm open to the fact it can help others .

I love that you see that coming here may be helpful during temptation . There is always someone here . I know for myself I had to put pride aside . I was not a tough cookie .  I really did need help through the rough times . I later learned that showed strength , not weakness . I believe strongly that you will find your way through this and I think this might just be the time Jen ...  you do show strength every time you restart . I for one am always going to support and encourage always . I never give up on those wanting to quit because it's you who will go on to inspire others from every lesson you learned . You rock this quit .

Jen, some people find Allen Carr to be very helpful--and that's great if it works for them.  I'm with you, Carr's book didn't do much for me, either.  Fortunately, different approaches work for different people. Just stay the course, do the reading on this site, and keep close.  And....stay away from carryout for now.
