How did you feel going back into public

With COVID-19 and the fact that we are retired I have not left my home in the last 5 days.  Yet the next two days will be in public.  I will have Mr. Smiley face the stress ball with me.  I have already arranged for my daughter to take her brother shopping. I'm nervous, I know that God has me covered.  So how did you feel?

LeftysLady‌ You did GREAT!  I think my first time out after quitting was to go to work and I was a bit of a wreck until I got there and realized I could handle it.  The car was a challenge but the rest of the day was okay.  That was over 6 1/2 years ago.

I tend to feel a bit vulnerable in public these days. Having to wear masks due to COVID, the social distancing it's all very strange! I miss hugging someone in public and being in small social environments. But I am trying to get happy and get my coping skills going!

How interesting that most of us got this question wrong and perceived it with reference to Covid.  Maki and Sootie picked up on the true intent of the question!

To answer with reference to quitting - I wasn't concerned about going out.  I think because I had made an agreement with myself not to smoke for 40 days.  Period.  When I make a commitment it's final, I honor it whether I enjoy it or not.  I keep my promises, whether they're to me or to someone else.  I will say, however, that I hadn't really thought about what might be ahead as far as triggers and how to deal with them.  I hadn't joined a quit site until a while after I quit, as I recall.  So it was a shock when I saw a butt on the ground and was totally triggered into a massive craving.  I think if you are educated about what to expect along this journey it will help protect you against relapses.  Because you can plan for certain things.  It's the unexpected that really knocks you for a loop.  But if you're firm in your commitment, in your resolve, firm in the NOPE "no matter what" thinking, you will be fine.  You just have to accept and agree with the choice you've made and negate any possibility of smoking.    https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/thread/1863-the-possibility-door
