Let's Get Moving Part 3

Jump to solution

'The original idea was to "get moving" at least 4 times a week, staying accountable to each other.  Post your accomplishments in the comments. This is the original blog link if you would like to clarify the guidelines

Let's Get Moving Challenge - EX Community.   Any activity counts, as long as you get off your butt and get your heart pumping.  Who knows, maybe we'll lose a little weight or a couple of inches in the meantime.  I hope placing it in discussions this time will work better than a blog post where there were so many entries and becomes harder to locate.  Let's see if we can keep it on the board often and easy to find.

I believe we got sidetracked when I suggested doing other challenges and those challenges were not conducive to everyone. My fault. Lesson learned.  So I am hoping we can get back to doing what "you" do instead of a specific routine.  Got it?.   In the previous post, there were a lot of comments to go through to come up with this list of who participated.  Hopefully, it will catch on again.  Of course, sometimes we got off topic which can happen.  This post really kept me motivated and we had a lot of fun while learning a lot from each other with over 2519 comments on the first blog and 1072 Let's Get Moving 2018 - EX Community  on second blog comments. So let's Get Moving Part 3!

So courageous YoungAtHeart‌, but you are an inspiration.

Last time I got in the pool was 3 days ago, when the wave of cold (the day it snowed in Colorado) made it to AZ and I got up in 65 degrees Farenheit.  I got in the pool, I was cold, started swimming a little faster, warmed up eventually for 30 laps.  But the next day, even at 4 pm, when the water had a chance to warm up for the day, I chickened out and did not get in.  But, you still inspire me, because I just ordered this morning, on Amazon, it is going to get here on the 15th (probably at night), a wetsuit ensemble, a longsleeves top, pants, and a cap.  Can't wait to get them and start using them, just curious how long into the AZ winter I'll be able to use them.

The day I forced myself to warm up and swim, it took me a good couple of hours to warm up in the house, where the AC is still set at 78.

No plans to move this weekend, other than maybe shopping and some clothes sorting, the holidays are approaching, hoping to start getting the calls from different charities which are collecting donations.  I have not heard from them since the whole Covid thing.

Maybe I'll try to walk tomorrow morning, this morning I got up at 7:00 but yesterday I started meditating in the mornings, and the house was quiet, puppy was snoring by the bed, I washed my face, and sat in the bed for 30 min of guided healing mediation. I know this is not moving, but it counts as healing

Just touching base.  Brave Nancy!  I had intended to get on the bike yesterday but docs appt. with husband took 3 hours and then shopping and then home and just exhausted.  This 88 degree heat isn't helping.  Hope to get out there today.  Nothing stopping me except me.  Catch ya'll later.

I REALLY DIDN'T WANT TO EXERCISE TODAY!  And then when it started raining and I couldn't go out on my bike (which is a fun exercise compared to some)  I DIDN'T WANT TO EVEN MORE.  But one of the reasons I posted earlier was to help hold myself accountable to ya'll.  And I too thank you, Jackie, for keeping this blog going.

You know I just went back to the beginning of where this all began and it was with   jdesco's blog  https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/groups/exercising-and-health/blog/2017/06/08/lets-get-moving-chal...  in 2017.  They are no longer here.  And interestingly they weren't much attentive nor a part of their own blog for very long.  I wonder if they have any idea how their blog made such an impact on this site with so many people.  And how it has been carried on.  God bless you, Jackie, for continuing it!

I'm looking for fellow Ex'ers to join me in my activity challenge.    I'm calling it the "Let's Get Moving" Challenge because I hate the word exercise.  Not only do I hate the word, I hate actually exercising.  LOL.  But really, all joking aside, I really do hate it.  But, I know it's the best thing for me.  I don't want to fail again.  I will fail if I don't try something different to get me out of this funk.

So, I challenge all of you to join me.  I'm going to try to "get moving" at least 4 times a week.  I'll stay accountable to all of you, which in turn will make me accountable to myself.  I promise to post my accomplishments and I welcome you to do the same.  Now that it should be easier for us to breathe, whadda-ya-say?  Do you want to take this journey with me?  Any activity counts, as long as you get off your butt and get your heart pumping.  Who knows, maybe we'll lose a little weight or a couple of inches in the meantime.

(emphasis mine in the above)

If there was a part 2, I couldn't find it.  Doesn't matter.  We're here now.  Doin' it.  Or not.  Or struggling to.  Or thinking about it.  Persevering.  Trying to be the Best that we can be.  In all areas of our lives, not just quitting smoking.

Anyway, waxing, as usual.

"I'm calling it the "Let's Get Moving" Challenge because I hate the word exercise.  Not only do I hate the word, I hate actually exercising.  LOL.  But really, all joking aside, I really do hate it.  But, I know it's the best thing for me.  I don't want to fail again.  I will fail if I don't try something different to get me out of this funk."

Although I haven't re-read those words until right now, I think in the background of my mind, the seeds were planted that keeps me - that MADE me -  go up on my porch in the 85 degree humidity and MOVE.

But really, it's the accountability to you guys "I'll stay accountable to all of you, which in turn will make me accountable to myself"  Truth.  If you weren't here gettin' in the pool when it's too cool, or walkin' when your hurtin', or whatever it is you're doing to keep moving when you don't want to - THAT's incentive to me.

And so let me be that incentive to you by saying NOTHING IN ME WANTED TO EXERCISE TODAY.  I was tired, tired tired.  I couldn't do the exercise I wanted that would have given me a psychological lift (bike ride).  But because of you guys, I couldn't let myself down.  YOU can do it, SO CAN I!    I posted earlier:  "Hope to get out there today.  Nothing stopping me except me. "

I didn't want that "me" to stop me.  And you all are setting such amazing examples.  So I chose the "me" that persevered and got up on that fricking hot porch and  did a step aerobic exercise I haven't done in over a year.  It didn't give me any energy.  I did not enjoy the experience particularly, except that I did get through the majority of it and psychologically that was a bit of a boost.  But I think my body benefited.  And I can say I DID IT!  And truly, it's because of you guys that I did that.  Otherwise I would have sat on my ass another day.

So - long story short - THANK YOU!

It was 63 degrees here at 8 Am (I forgot to look earlier) which means the pool is going to be ever COLDER than the last time I swam....but I only have three more days to use it.. covered for the season on Wednesday.....so I will don my Neoprene and give it the old college try.  The sun has moved and no longer shines on the pool - at all....I can't IMAGINE how cold it's going to be.......................

So - here I am - making excuses.......................................................................................................................................

I WILL go; I WILL try. I will let you know if I am successful!

If not, there is still climbing a ladder and pruning and lopping and sawing to be done.  I WILL move...regardless - because I am accountable to me and to YOU all - and that is a GOOD thing!

Good for you Nancy, hubby got in in the pool yesterday evening and said it was good, but he took a hot shower right away!!! I stepped on the patio today, not committing to the water for today, not me.

Good luck to you, and let us know what it was in the end: swimming or pruning

The Neoprene will help - but you still have to get over the initial shock of the cold water for a bit.  It's kinda' like quitting - a mind game, knowing it WILL get better after you swim a lap or two.

Hope you can - you ALWAYS feel so good after!!!

Not doing well on the moving front but the next two weeks I will have access to an indoor pool and I'm going to use it .

Pools are all open , but for the next couple weeks I will be at a hotel . 8 people are allowed at a time . Hopefully I can pick a time when it's quietest , but I can't wait for covid to be gone . I'm in a crunch , no way out of it so although there are many risks covid wise in the next two weeks , I'm praying for the best . I'll be moving in several different senses of the word . You guys are doing great .

I DID it!  76 degree water!  79 degree outside temp!  I have a Neoprene jacket that I bought before the vest - and it is JUST right for these temps.  STILL took a bit to get all the way in, but proud of myself!  Getting in is the most difficult part - so did 30 minutes- feeling maaaaaa-velous and proud of myself!

You are a hero Nancy YoungAtHeart‌, you and hubby can do stuff like that!  I'm a wuss...

We did not have a thermometer for the water, till yesterday.  I put it in in the morning, the water is at 82, but the temps outside are climbing, hopefully I can get the water at 85 and can swim for another week.  The wetsuit arrives tomorrow also, hopefully it won't be used soon

FELT like a Super Hero getting in that water TODAY - 76 degrees and air temp the same and breezy!  Did 30 minutes because, after all, getting in is the HARD part.  Wanted to take advantage  - tomorrow's high is only 72, so it will be in the 60's at my swim time.  Not sure even Neoprene can make up for THAT, but it's my last chance, so we'll see!

The mourning shall begin.
