Any suggestions ?

Hey everyone.   I am knew to this group.  I have been chewing on and off for over 4 years now. I have tried to quit, but end up getting stressed and start back up again.  Tonight I realized that I have a serious problem with tobacco/nicotine.  I actually had a mental breakdown because I was out of chew, but I dug through all of my things and found more. Using tobacco is a serious addiction, and I want to quit. I set a date for In a few weeks to quit.   But in the meantime to prepare for this, does anyone have any suggestions? I can’t use the patch or nicotine gum.  But anything else? Please.  Thank you.

Welcome to our quit family!  Yup, we all have nicotine problems.  I never chewed now chawed, but I think the need for the substance is the same however our method of induction.  And you're right, tobacco is a serious addition.  I, for one, have dug through my own garbage to pull out half a nasty used butt to smoke when I was out of them.  That kind of tells you where you're at.  Only we deny until until we  actually "get it."  It sound like you "get it."

I was a SMART TURKEY‌ quitter.  Most of us smoked cigarettes, so we're talking about that particular hand-to-mouth scenario, but just transfer what were saying to your particular induction ceremony.

You can survive the journey without the patch and the gum.  There are other drugs that an help reduce cravings that act on a certain part of your brain (Chantix, etc.) but understand - they only REDUCE the cravings.  They don't stop them.  Others here will chime in with their support, experiences and suggestions.  Read them all with an open mind and then make up your own mind, based on the education you've gleaned here and your own "gut" instincts as to how best to approach this beastie.  Just know that it is conquerable.  If WE can do it, YOU can.  Because this addiction is a common denominator, and we are no different than you.   /blogs/Giulia-blog/2018/03/01/quitting-is-a-skill-that-can-be-learned?sr=search&searchId=26a89557-7e...

That is odd that you cannot use the gum or the patch but you can use chew...it is seriously confounding to me.  I did not use anything but I have nothing against any aides.  I know that many people have had good results with prescription medications like Wellbutrin and Chantix, you might want to talk with your doctor.  Nicotine is an evil and powerful addictive agent and quitting is a one day at a time JOURNEY and not an event.  You CAN do this...it takes time and you cannot expect it to just go away, you will have good days and bad days but, if you are honest with yourself, you have them NOW too.

Welcome to EX.
