First Day/Anxious!

Holy Crap, people.... nicotine and the habit, are truly the Devil.   I’m 54 yo, been using this crutch for 50 years.  Integrated into my being on multiple levels.  A true coping mechanism.  I’m on Wellbutrin, put my patch on first thing.  Every last cigarette, ashtray, etc.  GONE.   Stress level at a 10

These early days of quitting suck - no two ways about it...but the only way out is through.  Get through each one, one day at a time, the best you can.  Find what might help and do it again tomorrow. Be sure to change up your routines, get some exercise, get some MORE exercise, drink lots of water, go for a walk (oh, right, that IS exercise?!!!), clean out a drawer, then a closet, then your car, then maybe your garage (if you have one).

The better you get at avoiding thoughts of smoking, the sooner this will get easier as the sensors in your brain increased by nicotine start to die off, and you relearn your life differently from when you smoked.  Change your routes to places you normally go, move the furniture around, put your computer someplace different - you get the idea.

It WILL get easier.  I can't tell you when - I CAN promise you it will.

Just hang in there until it does!

What helped you decide to quit? You've taken the plunge. Good for you. Ex is here to listen and support whenever you want or need it.

I quit at age 54--almost seven years ago. Thought I'd lost my mind. I hadn't. Took a while for the smobriety transplant to take hold.     Quitting Cigarettes Journal I started a blog in 2014 about 7 months into my quit and continue to this day. You might find it helpful to read. There are a ton of good blogs right here on Ex--here are a few you might be interested in: /blogs/oldbones-larry/2020/05/08/two-sides   by Larry   Helpful Blogs, Discussions, Comments, Videos, Links, Info Re Quitting  compiled by Giulia, https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/groups/newbie-quitters/blog/2019/01/27/one-of-the-greatest-tools-... by Jackie.

Keep it one day at a time.

Hang tough lucky4babs‌; it really will come to an end-- all this turmoil and being brought to your knees. I can't say what day this will come as each of our quits are somewhat diffrent; but I know that it will. Believe it. Watch for it. Celebrate when it shows up.

Hi Babs. I’m also 54 I quit in April. I did all the preparations also. The decision is the biggest! Yay for you!!! I will share that I have failed many times but I also succeeded many times. I learned that I was a stress smoker. I learned to use my voice to stand up for myself. I learned to love me. I learned a lot on this site. Please feel free to share! Everyone here is helpful! Oh yes I’m still on the Wellbutrin. I went off of it only to find out that I have a low level of depression. So my doc says to stay on it. I’m good with that. And twizzlers are my friend. Much better than nasty cigs. Glad to have you and if you fall off that horse just dust it off and get right back on

Hope your quit is going well for you lucky4babs‌...it's a difficult yet very rewarding passage. Many have found it helpful to write a break-up letter to your cigarettes; this may be something that you'd find helpful. Here's mine, if you care to read it~ https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/people/SuzyQ411/blog/2020/01/03/goodbye-forever?sr=search&searchI...

After more than 60 years of smoking, I am now 270 days quit and pledge each day to not smoke, no matter what comes my way. I'm not the only one who will admit the ride is somewhat like a roller coaster but when we stick together and help one another, our chances of success are great.

It is true that we here at the EX have each others' backs, including yours!

Stick with your quit and keep us updated on your progress. We are here for you!
