We don’t delete content unless it’s spam or the occasional duplicate.  When we move we’ll be moving over as much of the content as possible.  Some things may be organized a bit differently but we always aim to move over as much as possible.  We worked with a great team las time that moved over things that other companies wouldn’t or said wasn’t possible.

With this currently community your content is safe. Sadly, Yes occasionally someone will delete their blog, question or discussion and all attached comments go with.  Or they may delete their comment and all associated replies to that post disappear but it’s fairly rare and not a reason you need to go backing up your content.  If you were nervous about things you could save the the title of the post and the first sentence and the date you posted it. Then after we move if you wanted to find out where things were after the move you could find things again wherever they moved to.  Searching the thing you saved will probably lead you right back to that content in the new platform if you can’t find it simply by looking through your new profile page. It’s kind like moving to a new house.  The rooms may be in a different place. The outside might be a bit different.  The furniture might be arranged a bit different.  The bathroom or the kitchen or master bath might be what you always wanted and the basement is a clean slate to finish off.  The guest bathroom might have wallpaper and a toilet that doesn’t always flush right but works for all intensive purposes.  You might stub your toe on occasion because you have to step up out of the den which you’re not used to or you have a workshop or crafting room again which you had years ago but didn’t have in the previous house.  It will be a change but it will all work out.  Some things will be familiar and some things will be new. The company you keep will be the same.

Disabling the responses was exactly what I wanted so that if it goes poof their responses don't go . It was recommended against .
My apology to those whose responses now are deleted. Now I think of it , likely their points they worked hard for are gone too . Maybe my reaction was too quick but it's frustrating even for an old quitter to have sites constantly changing  formats .

Sorry Mark just saw your response now  ( after I'd already deleted many of which I wanted to keep ) and reacted too soon . Glad you've explained it for us all so we are in the loop and have a sense of security .

Wow, I am SO SORRY if I gave you the indication that our content would not be moved to the next platform.  The point that I thought I was making was that they did everything they could to make the move good for us.  And that, as with anything on any platform ANYWHERE on the internet, if you're worried about losing your content it's always good to save it.  I certainly didn't mean to imply that all our blogs and responses would definitely disappear into the ether.  And I  didn't suggest deleting anything after saving it, good grief.  I feel really bad about that.  But fortunately - you've saved it.  So you CAN put it back if you want.  Right?  Please, I hope!  I specifically mentioned saving the responses because many of the responses on some of my older content were not carried over and that was some really good stuff.  Fortunately I had saved it, so I could put it back up.  Forgive me, Maki.   I am so sorry I was misinterpreted here.

Updated: Points issue only affects me.

Points may not be showing for you at the current time. I'm aware of it and it's being looked into.

I understand why you felt that way. Sorry you faced that concern, but yes I don't recommend disabling responses. Unfortunately this platform doesn't indicate clearly when responses are disabled so people get confused when the reply buttons are missing or some replies exist but there is no option to add more.

Yes, it's unfortunate. People don't understand why they lost points, they just see it as a negative and wonder why. They may also want to refer someone to their response and the response is then missing. But they don't know why. Unfortunately there is no way for me to prevent it from happening.  In some cases a user can't delete other's things when deleting their own and in other cases they can. It's sadly inconsistent.

When we moved in 2017 to this platform we were trying to get off a very dated platform that couldn't be easily updated. We made a careful decision with the intention of not having to move again for a long time. Unfortunately multiple things transpired that are leading us to make a transition again.  I learned things before moving the community in 2017 and have learned more things since the move. With this next move, again we're not looking to be moving in the foreseeable future so we're going to be careful in our decision making. It's time consuming and costly and also distracts me from being here and present as much as I enjoy.

Sorry Mark just saw your response now  ( after I'd already deleted many of which I wanted to keep ) and reacted too soon . Glad you've explained it for us all so we are in the loop and have a sense of security .

I encourage people to ask in Community Help‌. I'm subscribed to it and receive every post. Usually there is some type of reasonable explanation. I try, whenever possible, to come up with a solution of some kind as well. I also want to always provide as much security as possible.

Maki So you know why Giulia has made it a practice to save things in the past. For context ,the community started in 2008 on one platform and moved to a different platform in late 2009. I'm not sure why that changed so quickly.  It was before my time so I don't know everything but it appears that not all content was moved. This may have been a known complexity at the time, an accident because careful attention wasn't being paid or a missed issue that wasn't discovered. Additionally some of the users who joined before the move were given a join date of the day the site moved. Because some data was likely lost in that move there is some concern about moving and retaining information. However with our last move in 2017, careful attention was paid and content was moved to the current site. We intend to do the same with the next move. As with any move, sometimes things are modified and end up looking different or find a new home. If there is any content that can't be moved in the next move here in 2020, we'll inform members what cannot be moved so they can back the content up in advance, if they choose. Unfortunately we won't know that until a platform has been selected and things have been carefully studied. Rest assured, the intent is not to have you need to backup anything if it can be avoided.

Mark, today...Monday July 13th, 2020...all of my rankings and points are now gone.  Is this because I reset my quit date?  If that's the case, then so be it...I will just have to take my beating and bear up...thanks,

Pops w/4 DOF!

Pops‌ I have seen some weird things happening with people who changed their email address to a new address and then changed it back. I'm not sure if you have updated your email address at any point in time recently?
