Give and get support around quitting

How to handle relapses?

So I started chantix and finally quit for 8 days. Felt great, then 2 days ago I smoked. I feel like a failure.  And so then I tried to stop again and this time is really hard. I am still taking the Chantix. Has this happened to anyone? What did you do?

Hi and Welcome to Ex’s IllinoisMomOf2

So happy you found our site...I didn’t use medications or NRT’s to quit smoking so not very helpful when it comes to them...however, I have seen them work time and again on this site.  However, you need to do along with getting support at this site...basically staying close to us for help.  Also, I recommend you read at My EX Plan | BecomeAnEX where you will make a quit date and plan for that day like no other...then you will throw all smoking paraphernalia away the night before (you can’t smoke what you don’t have).  Next, I suggest you read the blogs and educate yourself on line about addiction and feeding that addiction.  This is why we relapse.  This is doable, but takes hard work even with the Chantix...be sure you are following the directions the Doctor gave you along with the Chantix.  We are in this together...keep busy .. /blogs/Maggie_quit_8-1-2010-blog/2012/03/19/100-things-to-do-instead-of-smoking?sr=search&searchId=9... Now get working...and know we will help you...Happy Friday...Be safe and Be well...Colleen 480 DOF

Glad you're back on track.  Did you take the Chantix in advance of quitting?  It needs time to build up in your body.  Did you spend time educating yourself about nicotine addiction and creating a plan.  Knowledge and preparation was the key for me.  Of course we're here for you.  Reach out before you smoke!  That's what we're here for.
