Blogging and site question

Jump to solution

So many fancy gadgets and useful aides to keep you quit here but I'm not efficient at computers . So can blogs be deleted?  It's early in the morning  lol . I don't see a delete button but their could be a delete button .

I just noticed I can opt for no comments on it though .

I am a keep it simple person and prefer one stop threads which leads me to ask which is your most used thread so I can read as well as encourage others and comment on their posts ) ?

If you want to find me however its best to just message me. I'd be happy to support you in your quit .  Thanks

Hello Maki‌. Since this is more about site functionality I moved it to Community Help

Q: So can blogs be deleted?

A: Yes, you may be able using the steps AnnetteMM‌ mentioned.  I know with some aspects of the site it lets you delete even if other people have commented but other cases where it does only if no one has commented. I don't recommend deleting either way.  This is your journey.  It's not perfect but it is a journey and a record of your time.  You'll grow and it's nice to have a written memory of that.

Q: I just noticed I can opt for no comments on it though .
A: Yes you can put up a blog and not allow any comments. That doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Why come to a social support site but not allow interaction.  I don't recommend using this function.

Q: I am a keep it simple person and prefer one stop threads which leads me to ask which is your most used thread so I can read as well as encourage others and comment on their posts ) ?

A: We have some busy threads but encourage if people are seeking help and have a specific question that they try to keep it to one topic per question. Certainly join a discussion already in process if you have something to say about a topic that has already been asked or discussed as there you will have more people interacting.  Threads that have a lot of different topics can get bogged down and the answers to questions can get lost in the many replies. Also for people who come to the site looking for a particular response, It can be hard to find the answer in catchall posts that  contain a lot of different questions and answers.

Q: If you want to find me however its best to just message me. I'd be happy to support you in your quit .

A: We recommend participating in public rather than via private message whenever possible as your help, support and wisdom can help others even if they don't get involved in the mix. Plus one response in public can help multiple people at a time rather than one response in private. Certainly some topics are private in nature and shouldn't be public but I find that most things here on the site have benefits of being public.

Q: Also , if I delete my account are my blogs posts gone then or do they stay .

A: We disable accounts, we don't delete them as per our https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/docs/DOC-1051 . If accounts are deleted then the posts and the responses go with it. It's not fair to the people who those who took time to respond to have their responses deleted without their permission. If someone wants their personal information removed from their account we can help with that but the posts will remain even if your personal information is disassociated.

In the upper right hand corner, under 'actions' I think there's a delete option for your own blogs.

I check in every day in the 'read the latest updates' on the home page.

If you delete your whole account you will lose it all.

Why do you want to do that?

Thanks Annette , I appreciate the response .

I wish you all continued success . My quit is solid ( almost nine years)  for those who've not checked my profile and coming from another site I don't feel I can be of much value to help others here .

The site for me is overwhelming . I don't know where to go to help people . To me it's so divided and really the busyness of it all causes me anxiety . Not good for this ex smoker lol .

Helping others is my passion but I feel led in another direction  ; keeping it simple , keeping it focused. Just like my quit ; keep it simple , keep it focused.

It is a great site with great people and I know the newbies will have much success here .

I will try to continue another week  maybe I'll catch on but I doubt it . Slow learner here . So it may not be posted in the right place or posted correctly but I do hope in some way it may help another in their quit . I know everyone to this day still helps me in mine .

Thanks Annette , I was on most of yesterday . Finding my way around is easier today . I understand the groups better and the blogging system I hope better . If not I always appreciate the help . Forgive me if I make mistakes . I'm not only new here but I'm old lol . Technology can be overwhelming . Feeling better about it today . It's maybe not as complicated as it seems .

Most of us are of a "certain" generation LOL! No worries.

It just takes some time "experimenting".   When we're new here, we all feel the same.  I'm sure there are things I still don't know how to do, but I probably don't need them.  Just give it some time.
