Let's Get Moving Part 3

Jump to solution

'The original idea was to "get moving" at least 4 times a week, staying accountable to each other.  Post your accomplishments in the comments. This is the original blog link if you would like to clarify the guidelines

Let's Get Moving Challenge - EX Community.   Any activity counts, as long as you get off your butt and get your heart pumping.  Who knows, maybe we'll lose a little weight or a couple of inches in the meantime.  I hope placing it in discussions this time will work better than a blog post where there were so many entries and becomes harder to locate.  Let's see if we can keep it on the board often and easy to find.

I believe we got sidetracked when I suggested doing other challenges and those challenges were not conducive to everyone. My fault. Lesson learned.  So I am hoping we can get back to doing what "you" do instead of a specific routine.  Got it?.   In the previous post, there were a lot of comments to go through to come up with this list of who participated.  Hopefully, it will catch on again.  Of course, sometimes we got off topic which can happen.  This post really kept me motivated and we had a lot of fun while learning a lot from each other with over 2519 comments on the first blog and 1072 Let's Get Moving 2018 - EX Community  on second blog comments. So let's Get Moving Part 3!

I had heard they have come up with better ways to do the knee replacements.  Did you feel any difference in the one in May and this one?  Good for you on the diet and exercise.  I am SOOOO attracted to sugar and carbs.....not sure I will ever be able to reduce my enjoyment of them.  I do eat small portion regular meals (to leave room for the junk calories!!! )

Glad the second replacement is over with.  Doing the PT routinely makes a world of difference in your recovery-you did good!

Glad (I guess) that you are back at work!

Nancy

Don't really notice any difference in the replacements I have. Staying away from the starches isn't too bad but ya gotta have french fries every now & then right.

How is your recovery going?

It was going GREAT - even progressed to the point that I took a 45 minute walk by the river last week, and THEN/blogs/Youngatheart.7.4.12-blog/2019/12/04/prayers-needed.  I cannot catch a break - I just can't.

Would appreciate knee mail (if you do that sort of thing!)

You bet Margaret.

Totally agree Mike! We quit smoking so how hard can this be? I stopped drinking diet soda. It was hard....but I adopted the same principles used to quit smoking. Now...I cannot imagine drinking a soda...diet or otherwise. I have also stopped eating bread. Now, I will be honest.....I MISS BREAD!!! But my cholesterol is down to an amazing level and my blood pressure is 110 over 60. Not to mention my middle age tummy is much improved! Whenever I get a craving for bread.....I think how GREAT it felt to hear my lab numbers! You will do this......and losing 20 pounds?? FANTASTIC!!!!!

Glad the knee surgery is over and went so well.

I only have sad news to bring today, My sister's homeless 45 year old son who just recently made the choice to get the help he needed for his mental illness had a heart attack and has passed away. Prayers for my sister and her family as they go through this difficult time would greatly be appreciated. Thank you.

Mike.n.Atlanta‌ you sound so good.  3 weeks PT in home, 3 weeks at the office and you're back to work.  I find that just amazing and it gives me hope, or at least takes some of the fear out of having a future knee replacement which I know will be needed at some point.  Probably two.  And losing 20 pounds is no mean feat either.  "just hope I can maintain this adjustment to the lifestyle" - you CAN, but you have to work at it.  Just like with maintaining our quits in the beginning especially until it simply becomes a way of life.  When maintenance becomes a way of life - we maintain.  When it doesn't we go back to our old ways.  So what we need to do is keep motivated.  And this little Let's Get Moving blog is our way to do that.  So don't be a stranger here.  Pipe up more often.  BRAG about what you done.  We need the acknowledgement and the cheering on.  Because exercise and discipline and dieting is hard.  It's so much easier to do nothing.  Well, not 'nothing' but to do LESS than we can do.  And doing LESS is the easy way.  And doing LESS brings us to  the old folks home that much more rapidly.  I'm speaking to the "old folks" here, like myself.  Not to the kids like Trigirl and jdeering.

Sorry, waxing on when I'm kinda not doing much.  Oh I blew leaves for over an hour today, but that's not getting my heart rate up.  And that's what I REALLY know I need.  I'm just finding it hard to go back to a standardized exercise regime when I've done it all my life.  I did The Firm for YEARS.  Did Jane Fonda's aerobic workout for a while.  Have kept up the original step routine tape I have.  Richard Simmons stomach, even now I do Fonda's weight workout.  That's my go-to for free weights.  But it's hard to stay motivated.  And so I think the more diversity we can employ in our "moving" - the better.

tjanddj‌  I wrote the above before I saw your latest post.  That is very sad about your nephew.  So very young.  And especially sad that he just made the decision to seek help.  Gentle thoughts going up for all.

YoungAtHeart‌  Nancy - I've already sent you a PM.  May the results tomorrow turn out that it's just a bit of a bang up and nothing serious.

Sootie‌  Dang, 110 over 60.  Man.  I'm impressed.  The doc finally convinced me to go on blood pressure meds.  I fought it for a couple of years.  He said, "you REALLY don't want a heart attack, they're no fun.  And it's not necessarily YOUR fault.  Could be hereditary."  Whatever - I'm taking one and it's lowered me to - at this very moment 104/55.  And YOU'RE doing it just by eliminating BREAD.  Wow.  Inspiring for sure!

Giulia‌   Now----FULL DISCLOSURE-----I've never HAD high blood pressure......but it was starting to creep up in these ....shall we say......"older years" --like 120/70. The bread thing was mostly for weight in the stomach area and cholesterol although I never realized how much SODIUM is in bread so that HAS to help blood pressure too.

Sootie‌, Giulia‌, I'd personally forgotten that I need this kind of support. This is hard to admit but I thought I could just do it. I don't have the strength to do this by myself so I'm gonna try to spend more time here.

Going to a Brazilian restaurant for lunch with the guys. It's an all you can eat but I can also just pay for one plate by weight. I promise not to pile on as I have promised myself smaller portions & slower eating. Pray for me.

Still doing my 10:00 am & 2:00 pm walk around the building which is .52 miles if I do it twice & it only takes 7-10 minutes. I find doing it alone is more beneficial because I can stay focused on the walk. If someone walks with me, they feel they have to talk or they bring their phone along & that just slows everything down. So I just sneak out of the office at those times & it's a more pleasant experience.

See y'all around.
