Give and get support around quitting

Please Help! I've been puffing and begging people for a smoke.

The only reason I went back is because my patches haven't come in.   I'm really going thru withdraws severely.   I'm begging what to do.  I've followed my plan and keep  taking the dog out.

Prayers or have you been thru this and what did you do to help yourself from smoking

For me it was just accepting the fact that I would not smoke NO MATTER WHAT happened in life. I no longer let myself give excuses for lighting up. I also thought, what was the worst that could happen while going through withdrawals. Yes, I had severe anxiety during the anticipation the few days before I quit and also the first few days of my quit. I stayed extremely active during those first couple of weeks that not only kept me from dwelling on smoking 24 hours a day but being out of breath from exercising so much kept me from not wanting to smoke.

If your anxiety gets so bad, then talk to your doctor about a temporary fix while you go through the first months. Don't let the fear of quitting be an excuse to smoke again. Smoking only increases fear and anxiety.

Hi and Welcome arodriqu1410

First, calm down and take a deep breath...this isn’t easy, but it is doable...For me, I prepared by reading at My EX Plan | BecomeAnEX ... once I knew my quit date...I learned everything I could about being an addict and know I couldn’t feed the addiction...that after 3 to 4 days the physical withdrawals will be gone...but it is the mental that takes time to tackle...learning to do other things then smoke...ok you are taking the dog out...so much more...learning to breath, meditate/pray, drink water, suck on hard candy, etc., this takes work...and in the beginning talking to yourself minute to minute...”You don’t need smokes to survive”...we have all been through what you are going through...we cried, we bickered with ourselves, we screamed, felt depressed, but I can tell you at 336 days quit...it is worth the fight because on the other side...it is better...keep close to here ... and help others...and get support...we are here for you...~ Colleen

Cutting down or attempting to quit using smoking devices, to me, are way harder than stopping altogether. Hand to mouth, sucking on some vape device is keeping too much of the habit going in your head. You need to take smoking(anything) off the table. I just joined today and posted my QUit Kit and personal intro here. Read that and you will see exactly how to put a kit together that will work for you.

Read everything you can on this site, don’t beat yourself up...change your mindset from I need a cigarette to I don’t do that anymore...the Alan Carr book about quitting smoking is the best read ever...you got this!!!

OK.  So what's the plan?  I'm not sure where you are?   Are you going to wait for the patches or go cold turkey?   If you want to wait for the patches use this time to educate yourself about nicotine addiction and work on your plan with a quit date in site.  If you're waiting, start cutting down in the meantime.   If you've quit, use some tools to help like deep breathing, chewing on straws, etc.

I used the patch to quit smoking but please realize, they are not a miracle crave buster. You will still have cravings and each time you "step down" you will have cravings. But they are an aid. If you want to use them and quit now, you can get the Walmart brand (Equate) for $26.00 for 2 weeks worth. If you want to wait, you can reset your quit date and use this time to cut down and continue educating yourself.

Looks like I'm a few days late in responding here. How are you doing arodriqu1410‌? Did your patches ever show up?
