Hi and welcome to the site! Congratulations on deciding to quit! Some others should be along with some other info. I can tell you what helped me - I came here after smoking for 40 years. I began reading lots of blogs here on the site, along with the book by Allen Carr - “The Easy Way to Quit Smoking”. And - I got the support from the wonderful people here. I quit! That was 9 years ago.. You can do this!! Stick around!

Nine years! Congratulations! I’m also new here. I was having difficulty sleeping and wanted to go out on the patio and smoke. Instead I Googled “quitting smoking online support” and found this forum. I’m not sure of anything except I want to quit, I’ve set my quit date, and I’m a bit fearful of the “what’s next”.

Hi Amber Welcome to EX.  Here is a link of things to do /blogs/Youngatheart.7.4.12-blog/2013/02/25/100-things-to-do-instead-of-smoke?sr=search&searchId=b3b6...‌, Craving Buster Technique‌.  Are you quitting cold turkey?  There are a lot of ways to go through a crave, use the search engine top-right magnifying glass and put in your keyword.

. Education is the key to successfully quit. Read, Study, Blog and be willing to do the work.  With the help of the to EX Community you can have a forever quit.  Start by educating yourself about the addiction to nicotine. Know the LAW!  If you Go to My EX Plan | BecomeAnEX and review the videos and learn more about what your triggers and how to prepare when the urge hits.  I am a firm believer education is the key to success. I was advised to read Allen Carr's Easyway to Quit Smoking which can be found on pdf on the web.  Another good site to get info which was very helpful to me is  www.whyquit.com.  There are several articles to read.  Nicotine 101 and Freedom From Nicotine My Journey Home.

Good morning. You have come to the right place to quit successfully. I too am 3 yrs.sober through AA and quit smoking on July 29. In less than 2 months, it's got so much easier. I was never able to quit because the craves felt so all consuming, sort of like hard labor contraction, that I literally felt as if I wouldn't live through them. This time, I found a way to mentally "rise above the crave". Somehow I could "numb" my brain so I wasn't so focused on the crave. And I would deep breath and say in my mind, "help me Jesus". I guess it's sort of like a self-meditation. Take all the suggestions offered here, and you will get through this.

Welcome to the Ex.  Addictions are something that happen to us, often unexpectedly.  Because of chemical dependencies, they can be a challenge to stop.  I so happy to hear you're in recovery, so quitting smoking is the next challenge to beat.  You're already a winner, so you can do this.  Educate yourself about nicotine by reading everything on this site and prepare with a quit plan.   We're here to support you, so just reach out.
