What's the difference between clicking on "Reply to Original"
And replying to a specific person's response...
For example in the Daily Pledge.
Does it have to do with the preference selection of Flat or Threaded Discussion View Style and if so, what exactly does that mean. If someone has selected Threaded, does that mean they won't see certain responses?
I don’t know about the second part of your question in terms of the “threaded” and “flat” part - I have no idea what that means. But, I thought that “reply to original” was shown as a comment to original post/poster - vs just “reply” under a comment showing that it is directed to that person. Both show on the blog though, so not sure why it is set up that way..... Not sure if that is what you were talking about Giulia.....
I know that the default is for "flat" viewing which is chronological. So if you're in "flat" mode, you will see everything but if you're in threaded mode - comments may be seen but in a different order? I don't know. When I have more time I'll change it around see what I sees and let ya'll know.
OK, just discovered some of the difference between reply to original or reply to a specific person and the difference between "flat" and "threaded" view. If someone clicks Reply specifically to your comment it puts in an @yourname and in Flat view it appears at the end of all other comments (assuming it's the last response made). At least it will be in date and time order. In the example below you can see that Youngatheart's comment Dated June 27th comes right before Joni's. And there is nothing after Joni's.
In Threaded view, however, Joni's response comes directly after mine:
As you can see, even though joni responded on the 28th, her post comes before Christine's on the 26th.
I'm glad the default is for FLAT. I would think it could get very confusing in THREADED mode. But actually is makes it easier in certain instances when you see someone responding to someone else but you can find the relevance.
