Give and get support around quitting

Jeff must quit

#I have smoked cigars for many years. I have been diagnosed with high blood pressure recently and tests have revealed a faulty heart valve. Not sure what the next step is but I would like to be able to tell the doctors that I have recently quit smoking.

I'm just looking for support and suggestions on how to get past the cravings.

You have come to the right place. You can quit those cigars here with us. The EXers will give you great advice Take it it works. Help yourself to quit by being prepared. It seems to be the biggest downfall not preparing. There is so much info on this site. My advice NOPE. Not one puff ever. No matter what!,  once you stop stayed stopped. Get your heart healthy. You can do this!  We are here for you and wishing you good health

So I was asked to set a quit date which I did of July 5. Are you saying no more right now?

To get your quit date sync'd to the site click this link on all devices you use the community on.  Then when you log back in it will be sync'd to your community profile.

Also check your private messages. I sent you a note as the post above I edited to remove your personal info.

What Barb102‌ is likely saying is that once you hit your quit date, commit to no more puffs.  If you can start that right now and quit today. Great, but we recognize that some people need to prepare and educate themselves.

Welcome to a great community of QUITTERS.

We are a group of proud, helpful determined folks that wish to help one another out of the awful grips of nicotine addiction through education, courtesy and understanding because most everyone of us are right there with you.  Many long term,  short term, and others that have relapsed, use each others ideas, thoughts, and practices to relearn how to live without the awful clasp this powerful drug has on our bodies and minds.

We do hope you'll join us by reading and writing as time allows.  The best way to stop is to be determined my you, but with the information available here, along with others support, you will eventually stop.  Coming here will give you an opportunity to hear from others that are in similar situations to vent, describe, learn, even feel loved by so many of us that follow up, and wish to stay nicotine free.

As a ex cigarillo smoker of at least 15 + years on and off, (prior to that at least 20 years as a cigarette smoker) I can say if you follow the many ELDER's recommendations you to will stop the repetitious addiction along with your love hate relationship with cigars.

Welcome again, we hope you'll stay forever till your end !

If you set a quit date....great! In the meantime..............prepare! Go to whyquit.com and read about the addiction to nicotine, quitting, craving and a lot of other great information. You may THINK you know all about it....but there is always more to learn. Nicotine addiction is the enemy and you have to know your enemy to defeat it.

NOPE is a saying we use after we quit.......not one puff ever. It means....once we quit...no matter what happens...we don't smoke. Smoking doesn't solve anything.....it never did. The addiction just makes you think it is calming you down, giving you energy, helping you focus, letting you relax, making you social, keeping you company............none of these things are true.

WELCOME to EX......we are all here for each other.

Welcome to EX, education about this addiction is vital and support, which you can get here in abundance is also vital...you need to commit to your quit not to smoke, no matter what.  I came here every morning and every evening when I first started and I read and read everything I could find, all of the blogs, all of the suggested blogs, Allen Carr's book "The Easy Way to Quit Smoking", I asked for advice and when it was given, I took it.  There are a couple of blogs that you might find particularly helpful, they were written by JonesCarpeDiem‌ and I am going to try to link them here, /blogs/jonescarp.aka.dale.Jan_2007-blog/2011/06/26/what-to-expect-in-the-first-four-months and https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/thread/6040-my-welcome-to-new-members-12-years-of-watching   You cannot be too educated or too supported.  As Sootie‌ says, we really ARE all here for each other.
