Give and get support around quitting

Why am I afraid to give up two cigarettes?

My quit date is March 23rd.  In the beginning of March my non-smoking sister suggested that I pick a time each day that I would absolutely not smoke for example driving my car.   I chose all day all night that I would not smoke.  Since March 9th I have two cigarettes in the morning and then I don’t smoke all day all night. In the 10 days that I’ve been doing this I had one slip up and smoked a ciggarette in the evening. I am using the patch. I put it on after the two cigarettes in the morning.  I am really freaking out over the thought of giving up those two cigarettes in the morning.  I am more fearful of giving those two cigarettes up then I am not smoking all day all night how crazy is that? Any suggestions?

Welcome to the Ex.  Congrats on your decision to quit today.    You've already gotten great advice, just wanted to wish you success on this journey.  Fear is a big part of this in the beginning and often keeps us from taking that first step.  It is important to plan in advance and change up that routine.  We have to  disassociate with behaviors that we associate with smoking.  It's time to create new associations.  You've got this today, so be proud.  We're here for you if you need help.  Just reach out.

One day at a time!

Hang in there and look at the list given to you ... do something to get your mind off of smoking...don’t try to understand... some days harder than others...just know and “ this too shall pass “...Colleen 110 DOF

Thank you,  I am going to relax and serial watch netflix movies until it is time for bed.  I will keep reminding myself for the rest of the night that this too will pass.

Movies/Netflix good thing ... maybe some popcorn ... in the beginning don’t look far out ... just look at getting through one day...nice breaths “in and out” I will check in again later

One of the things learn along this journey is that no two days are same.  You can be purring along without a jolt and suddenly you're slapped upside the head.  And that can happen at ANY time.  So it's good to know and be prepared for it.

At this point it's all in your head.  Let 'em go.  You're still clinging to your binky.  Agree to your quit.  Agree with you decision.  Close the door on the option to smoke.  Say YES to life without them.  You'll be happier for it.  Trust us.  It's a small leap from this point to Freedom.

Freedom's gate awaits.
