Quitting my Juul proving harder than quitting cigarettes

Hi all,

I'm here because I'm trying to give up my Juul habit. I am a former smoker, had been blessedly quit for years, but used a Juul on a lark and it is proving more difficult than my final smoking quit 7 years ago. I realize that many on these threads may use Juul as nicotine-replacement, which I support (it's certainly better than smoking). But my goal is simply to get off nicotine again, for health reasons (no idea what my near-constant Juul inhalation will do someday) and cost (money could be so much better spent).

Just wondering if anyone here is trying to give up Juul / vaping habit and finding it as wildly difficult as I am.

Thanks all.

I can say with absolute certainty that I could not have done it without this community.  I still come here every single morning.

Hi And Welcome to Ex's

I do this post to newbie's with smoking and wanting to quit.  I personally see no difference in JUUL's because you are addicted and addictions and breaking the cycle work the same. You received some great advice about me.  I was told recently from a Doctor we must realize anything we breath into our lungs can't be good...unless it is air.

I am so happy you found our site.  You are not alone, in fact you are no different then all of us.  You are an addict.

This journey takes work, knowledge and preparation. I suggest you go to  My Quit Plan.  Here you will read and create your personal quit plan.  You will choose your Quit date.  Then you will work towards that day like no other.

Read other's blogs to learn everything about quitting.  I suggest the one below especially...

100+ Things to do instead of smoking

Keep close to the site to support others and to get help.

We are in this journey together...Choose Life over Cigarettes...I won't kid you...it isn't easy, but it is doable.  If we can do it, you can too...now get working.

Juul’s advertising is deceptively clever. Beware.

Tobacco companies did it in the 50’s and 60’s and it’s very effective.

Hello altusadmin,  I am in the exact same boat with my Juul.   I smoked a very long time ago (in high school / college), and hadn't touched a cigarette in 30 years.    Then my daughter came home from college last year with a Juul.   After first trying to share every piece of information on how bad vaping is and trying to get her to stop,  I ended up trying it and liking it and loving it.  If I leave the house and forget to bring it with me, I am in a panic until I get home.   That's why I know I need to quit because I don't want to be held hostage to it anymore.   I've tried to quit before, but I always go back to it.   I just joined the site today and I know it says to pick a quit day out in the future, but I had already thrown everything out after I finished my last pod around noon today.   I bought a refillable vape pen and zero nicotine juice.   It's nothing like a Mint Juul pod, but I'm hoping that it will help with the "habit" I have created.   I am so glad I found this site and this string, because I don't know a single adult my age who smokes a Juul.   And the young adults I know who smoke a Juul have no intention of quitting any time soon, including my daughter.   I hope that I can set a good example for her too.    Good luck to you!!!

I'm very familiar with that "leaving the house panic" check for my Juul. I think I confirm that I have the Juul pen first before evening checking for my cell phone and wallet (as ridiculous as that is). That's the power of that little contraption.

I had not thought about getting the zero nicotine pod inserts - I think I'll look into that.

Glad this could be some help. I know that all the stories about Juul are specific to high schoolers and college students, but I would imagine that it's only a matter of time before adults are swept into this vicious addition from Juul as well. I'm eager to find a community of the 40+ crowd who is also having a heck of time leaving Juul behind!

I wish Juul would offer the zero nicotine pods. But I had to buy a different device (suorin) that has a refillable pod and the closest thing to mint that I could find was menthol which tastes like a Halls cough drop :(. But, I hope it helps.

I think you’re right about adults being swept into the Juul addiction eventually. I just heard a commercial on the radio today for Juul being advertised as a way to quit cigarettes! It sounded so believable I thought it was going to be about some hypnosis session going on downtown! And it was so ironic because I had just thrown out all of my juul paraphernalia at the gas station. I get back in the car and I hear a commercial about quitting...thinking “SIGN ME UP!” and at the end they mention the Juul and I almost wrecked my car.

I’m only 7 hours into this and I know it’s a long road ahead.... so glad to have found this group.

Tobacco companies knew so much more about creating image. I spent 25 years in advertising and we would regularly discuss cigarette advertisements.

If you’re over 60+ you may remember these.

I’ll start the slogan and you finish. Remember. The last time you heard this was January 1970.

Winston tastes good like.............I’d rather fight than ........I’d walk a mile ..........

And we still remember. Now look at Hollywood. Actors and studios are paid MILLIONS for product placement and have their stars seen smoking.

Maybe this will make you angry enough to quit.

kyliecharles   WOW, welcome to EX, we are so happy to have you here along with others who are beginning their journeys to recover from this miserable addiction...it IS an addiction and there are no two ways about it.  You CAN do this, I won't tell you that it is easy because it sure wasn't easy for me to stop smoking but just LOOK at you...you DID stop smoking for 30 years before this miserable device came into your life.  Recovery is recovery and you need to understand that this is a one day at a time journey.  It is the same as recovering from smoking cigarettes, just a different delivery method.  Education about the addiction is vital as is support, and last but certainly not least is your commitment.

Tommym‌ Sadly, I remember ALL of them.
