Give and get support around quitting
Hello all,
i have quit smoking a dozen times, I get to day two or three and want a cigarette. I go outside and only smoke about a half cigarette then I am content again. I can tell that my breathing is affected but I still can’t get past the urge to smoke. I think it is boredom, maybe.
I live alone with my poodle and we only have each other. So, I really want to quit so I can be hear for her. This last year I went through a very devastating divorce so, a lot of changes at once. I guess. My family thinks I quit smoking a year ago. I appreciate being herewith all of you.
Thank you. I Hope no one minded my sharing this picture. Like most people my little pet is my best friend and companion. The picture is my reminder why I really need to quit. If something happened to me there is no one to take care of her. We have been side by side for 6 + years now and she deserves better from me.
I am following everyone’s advice.
Thank you all.
We share photos of our fur babies all the time. They are the love of our lives and for the most of us help keep us sane and smoke free...
Hi and Welcome to Ex's...glad you found us...we are all in this journey together. Honestly, after many failed attempts quit too, this is my last quit. The difference is I worked hard, gained tons of knowledge and prepared for my quit date like no other...First, I suggest you work up a plan and set a quit date...you can do this my going to My Quit Plan
once you have that quit date ... then plan for that day like no other...keep busy, puzzles, exercise, take the dog for a walk, come here and help others, read about the dangers of smoking, etc., you do anything, but smoke...we retrain ourselves to do other things then smoke...Choose Life over cigarettes...~ Colleen 93 DOF
I get to day two or three and want a cigarette.
Of course you do! That's exactly when the nicotine receptors in your brain go into panic mode. Imagine the little fellows, all starving for their drug, jumping up and down in your head and screaming at you to GO NOW AND SMOKE!!!! And then if you do, they all calm down for a little while. "Ahhh...we got our hit." And then, pretty soon, they're back to jumping and screaming.
The good news is that it only lasts a short time. Get past the panic, and it gets better. Promise!
What a darling pup! SOOOOOOOOOOO adorable!!!!

Welcome to Ex. Please check out the links below about quitting and getting ready. One of the kindest things you can do for yourself is to realize that quitting is a one day at a time journey. Keeping it in today reduces the challenge into doable--rather than worrying about how you will manage tomorrow, or next week, or for the rest of your life. Just for today.

Quitting Smoking is a Journey - YouTube Doc Evans out of Canada
You CAN do this, quitting is not an event, it is a one day at a time journey and when a day is too long, it is an HOUR at a time, or a MINUTE at a time. Smoking will not fix anything, whatever the reason is that you smoke is still going to be there AFTER you smoke. Seriously, this addiction is like any other addiction, it is insidious and cruel and it has to be treated with your patience and your education about nicotine addiction and then support from people who have been where you are. You have to bring one thing to the table...that is your COMMITMENT to quit smoking and your acceptance that it might not be easy but it GETS easier and you are worth it. Be willing to go through whatever you need to in order to GET and to STAY free.
Read blogs and see what is working for others, there is no reason that you can't quit. By the way, your pup is adorable and you absolutely want to be there for him/her. We are here to help you in any way that we can...stay close to the site.
Welcome to EX,
