You mean like Driving Trigger Help! ?

https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/thread/16072-its-the-sneaky-trigger-that-gets-ya ?

We've all had the same stuff happen when we quit. Acknowledging the craving,  learning from it, helps you get past it.

Read all you can on here and you'll find lots of like-minded souls

Welcome to our community!

In the car was someplace we were allowed still to smoke, and most of us did.  Here is a blog I wrote with some suggestions on things you can do to distract through those craves:/blogs/Youngatheart.7.4.12-blog/2019/01/10/car-quitting-tips.

The important thing you can do right now is to educate yourself on what nicotine does to your body and mind. To that end, I highly recommend Allen Carr's “The Easy Way to Stop Smoking.” This is an easy and entertaining read. You can search for it online or at your local library. Here's a link to a video here on the site which describes nicotine addiction: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpWMgPHn0Lo&feature=youtu.be.

You should also read the posts here and perhaps go to the pages of folks who you think might be helpful. You might visit whyquit.com, quitsmoking.com and livewell.com for the good information contained there. @https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/groups/best-of-ex has lots of blogs written by members of this site with their experiences and guidance.

The idea is to change up your routines so the smoking associations are reduced.  Drink your coffee with your OTHER hand in a place different from when you smoked. Maybe switch to tea for a bit.  If you always had that first smoke with your coffee, try putting your tennies on right out of bed, going for a quick walk, then taking your shower and THEN your coffee! Rearrange the furniture in the areas you used to smoke so the view is different. Buy your gas at a different station. Take a different route to work. Take a quick walk at break time where the smokers AREN'T.

You need to distract yourself through any craves.  You can take a bite out of a lemon (yup - rind and all), put your head in the freezer and take a deep breath of cold air, do a few jumping jacks, go for a brisk walk or march in place, play a computer game.  Keep a cold bottle of water with you from which to sip. Don't let that smoking thought rattle around in your brain unchallenged. Sometimes you need to quit a minute or an hour at a time.  You will need to be disciplined in the early days to distract yourself when a crave hits.    Get busy!  Here is a link to a list of things to do instead of smoke if you need some fresh ideas:

 https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/blogs/Youngatheart.7.4.12-blog/2013/02/25/100-things-to-do-instea...

The conversation in your head in response to the "I want a cigarette" thought needs to be, "Well, since I have decided not to do that anymore, what shall I do instead for the three minutes this crave will last?"  Then DO it.  You will need to put some effort into this in the early days, but it gets easier and easier to do.

DanyellWatts‌ Looks to me like you are navigating the site really well.  If you have specific questions...just ask.  You MAY find answers in some blogs https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/community/community-help/blog/2017/02/14/ex-to-ex-instructions was posted in Community Help.  I learned by trial and error...LOTS of error.  Now, I sign in and go to the Home page and then I take the Daily Pledge https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/thread/24222-the-daily-pledge-march-2019  and return to the Home page and read blogs and eventually go to my Inbox which is the little white bell inside of the burgundy colored box next to your avatar.  That opens up blogs or comments from people I follow and also things I have commented on in the past because that is how I have my preferences set.  Glad you are here, please do not hesitate to ask for help just like you did with this question.

Driving was a huge trigger for most of us here.  It was one of the few places we were allowed to smoke.  For me, it was one of the triggers that went away quickly, like within a week or 2.  Others, like stress or accomplishing a task, took longer to fade away.  Hopefully, one of the newbies can chime in and commiserate with you.  But all of us here can empathize.

Driving was a strong trigger for me to or talking on the phone but really just about everything is wrapped around the smokes so it definetly takes time to relearn life without the smokes BUT boy oh boy it's so worth it to be Free, in my early weeks I chomped on carrots and celery sticks which helped me change things up a bit and I kept a bag of sugar free mints around plus I drank a lot of water which I still do, stay close to this site because we're all here to help you in any way we can.....

Driving was a really strong trigger for me...riding was not so much because I smoked before and after I was in a car that was being driven by someone else.  I am SO GLAD that I don't have to fiddle around trying to light a cigarette, keep the smoke going out the window, and the ASH from falling all over me.  I cannot COUNT the number of times that the lit end of the cigarette fell and nearly caused me to have an accident.  NO MORE.  I kept a water bottle handy as well as some Sour Patch Kids to change my mind when I thought of smoking.  It goes away...seriously.  I drove ten hours after I had been quit for a little over a year and I said the Serenity Prayer over and over and over again.  It was Memorial Day weekend and there were more stupid drivers than usual.  I never wanted to see a cop as much as I did on that trip.  I DID make it, I didn't hit anyone, and I didn't lose my quit OR my mind.

Long road trips are the only thing that I'm worried about, but I've got it. Funny how that works. I used to smoke at least a pack when I'd drive to MD (3 hours) and hacked up 12 lungs at least when I got to my son's house. Sigh. I hate being an addict, but I love recovery and not smoking.
