Give and get support around quitting

Another newbie!

So where do I start?! I quit smoking for 5 years and here I am quitting again. I see all the benefits from quitting. I had them. But this time it’s been very mental for me. I get bored and start thinking about them then  want a cigarette, I get overwhelmed and want a cigarette, I just smoked a cigarette and tell myself I need another cigarette. Even typing this is making me want a cigarette!  It’s exhausted me. Any support is very much appreciated as just about everyone in my life smokes and don’t plan on ditching them anytime soon.

You have already started by introducing yourself.  5 years huh?  There are those who have had a lengthy quit before and came back and are doing EXtremely well.  They often say that they thought they had lost something.  Until they realized they hadn't they were stuck to still wanting to smoke.   Hopefully, you will relearn your thinking and know that you do not have to have a cigarette.  Education is the key to a successful quit.  You have come to the right place to get support to quit smoking.  Start first by educating yourself on addiction to nicotine. Foundation For A Successful Quit‌ this blog will give you a jump start.  Also, it is advisable to read Allen Carr's Easyway to Quit Smoking which can be found on pdf on the web.  Another good site to get info is www.whyquit.com.  There are several articles to read.  Nicotine 101 and Freedom From Nicotine My Journey Home.  Quitting takes planning and preparation go to EX Plan | BecomeAnEX  To get help on navigating the site go to. Community Help My lp‌.  Again Welcome, there is more to come.  If you have any questions you can do a search with the magnifying glass type any keywords and research.  If you have any questions just ask and give up the opportunity to respond.

Welcome to EX...boy, your addiction is really talking to you.  You CAN quit smoking, you DID quit smoking, I have just over five years and I really cannot imagine smoking again but I have LOTS of reasons NOT to.  I have COPD and when I quit, I was really close to checking out, so to speak.  I came to this site and I read and read and read...blogs and anything that was recommended to me.  I reached out and commented and people reached right back and helped me more than I would have thought possible.  Remember that quitting is a journey and not an event, it is one step at a time, maybe one FEELING at a time, you need to relearn dealing with life without trying to numb your feelings.  I won't tell you it is easy because you already know it isn't but I WILL tell you that you CAN do it...read everything you can about nicotine addiction, stay very close to this site, set a date and COMMIT to your quit.  I used the mantra from this site, NOPE, Not One Puff Ever and it really worked because it was so simple.  I suggest that you read a blog by YoungAtHeart‌  For Our New Years' Quitters (and community members, too)  I think you will find the blog and the comments to be really helpful.  I also recommend a blog by JonesCarpeDiem‌ that I read over and over again at the beginning of my quit, /blogs/jonescarp.aka.dale.Jan_2007-blog/2011/06/26/what-to-expect-in-the-first-four-months  Now, set a date, make a plan and hop on board, My EX Plan | BecomeAnEX  We are all here to help you in any way that we can.  If you live with smokers ask them to smoke outside to support your quit, that really would be better for them as well.

Again, welcome,

Ellen

Sounds like you're as addicted behaviorally as you are to the drug itself. That's me for sure!

I'm glad to hear you're quitting again. I've quit a number of times and this one seems to be sticking. I'm loving being a nonsmoker.
