Give and get support around quitting
My name is Marlo. I was 8 days smoke free. I felt as if I had overcome most of my daily triggers that could trip me up. I wasn't expecting to have sex after a very long time. (It was a pleasant surprise )
Unfortunately, the first thing I did was have a cigarette. And I've had a second one since.
so, do restart my count like an alcoholic would? Or... Do I call this a speed bump and not do it again?
Today, I don't know if I can stay away from a cigarette. This is the first time I have truly felt like an addict. That scares the hell out of me.
Thank you for your help Nancy 🙂
You have gotten lots of great advice...I agree that you have to reset your quit clock, I also agree that it is really important that you realize you are an addict. IDEALLY, there would not be any cigarettes around for you to smoke at that challenging moment...if you had to get up and go to the store to get them...chances are, the crave would have passed. No crave lasts for very long and no crave ever killed anyone, no one can say that about cigarettes. You can do this...one day at a time and when that's too long...how about one hour or one minute?

What's your NEW date?
I have heard your question in my head for days... I have asked myself over and over what my date is? I will be posting, but I wanted to tell you first since you asked me first, my date is March 1st. I am still reading, learning, gathering and preparing for success this time. And in case you ask, I am currently not smoking on a daily basis.
Thank you for your support, Marlo

I've found that every time I've had to start over it's harder. That's one of the reasons I now have an almost 13 year quit. I REALLY don't want to experience another day one. There comes a time when it truly is easier to stay smoke free than to begin anew. Once you've got it, you have to hold onto it with all your might.
You had 8 smoke-free days. Of course you can stay away from a cigarette. You proved that, right? Start again. And as your after-sex reward, eat a piece of chocolate instead. Lesson learned, right? Keep moving forward. You can do this.

You received a lot of great advice above me. The only thing I would add, learn from it and how you will do different in the future. Also, don’t beat yourself up, get back in the Quit ~ Colleen
