Dealing with mate /friends that still smoke

FYI. If you type in a search phrase or any topic such as "living with smoker" top right corner by the magnifying lens you will get more.  Also, you must educate yourself about nicotine addiction.  NOPE (Not One puff ever) will keep you free.   Education is the key to a successful quit.  Start First, by educating yourself about nicotine addiction.

Understand the law of addiction."

Law of Addiction

Administration of a drug to an addict will cause re-establishment of chemical dependence upon the addictive substance."

Congrats on making the choice to quit! That's fantastic!

Certainly it's hard to consider when you don't have the support at home you would like.

  1. Are they smokers themselves?
  2. Do they not care or are they just really just pretending not to care?
  3. Have you tried to quit before? If so, were they supportive previously?

First of all WELCOME to EX.

To answer your question I would say simply...you don't . This is not their quit it is yours. Quitting for many people places and things is all good, don't get me wrong...but the bottom line is you must decide to quit for you, IN MY OPINION.

My experience was ( and why this is all my own opinion) I failed many times and my husband of 38 years got tired of me telling him " I quit" that it sounded like a broken record to him. He loves me very much, don't get me wrong, but there comes a point when action speaks more than words. So thats what I did September 2, 2014. I quit cold turkey and went on with my days without even bringing it up. I had decided I was doing this for myself and I used this site for my support.

Everyone has their own journey and this was how I did it. I got my support here from fellow former smokers who knew and understood the road I was on. I gathered my strength from them. They understood my failures- weaknesses and strengths.

Anyway, thats my 2 cents on the matter

They probably smoke themselves and you make them see that there are better ways to live and they dont; think they can do it and you are.  Keep on keeping on.  Not sure these people are your friends.  we are!

I would ask them to understand how important this quit is to YOU and ask them to understand that you are going to put your quit first, no matter what they say or do.  I did get lots of support but I also had some friends who were and still are smokers, show that they were frustrated with me because there were things I refused to do because I was quitting.  I talked just about all of the time about EX and about things I was learning and how helpful the site was.  It felt like home...I could come here at any time and read blogs, comment, ask for advice, and I knew I was really not doing this alone.  You don't have to either.  I hope you have done some preparation but, if not, it's not too late to prepare as you go.  Make a plan, read everything you can find on nicotine addiction (accept that it is an addiction), stay close to the site, come here instead of smoking...you will always find support.  COMMIT to your quit...it is YOUR quit, just like Mandolinrain‌ said.  I quit COUNTLESS times before this quit...I failed repeatedly until I found this site.  What an amazing difference...support, understanding, explanations of what I was feeling.  You CAN do this, we want to help, we all started at the beginning.

Welcome to EX.
