Week 1 too easy?

Hi everyone. I’ve been smoking 30 a day for almost 25 years and this is the first attempt I’ve made to quit. Today has been a week and I haven’t had much trouble or cravings.  Only 2 strong cravings that I can remember. I’m going cold turkey, no aids, so there should be no more nicotine in my system. 

Are there others here who coasted for awhile, then hit a wall later on down the road?  I expected to be climbing the walls after a day or two, but it hasn’t been bad at all and I’m waiting for the worst to appear.

Congrats on 1 week smoke free.  Afraid that wasn't my experience, maybe someone else can address this topic.  With the right attitude, it might be an easier quit for you.  Like Tina said, always be vigilant.

The thing I want to stress the most is protecting your quit.  It is too easy to slip if you don't protect it.  Try not to take your DOF (days of freedom) for granted and have plenty of quititude.

I was grateful mt quit journey was on the "easier" side, but I also realize I have to be aware I can lose my quit at any moment if I am not vigilant.

Your doing great so don't set yourself up for trouble and start looking for it. Best thing is to just have a plan of action you will do IF the trouble starts.....but please don't fret over it, you can make yourself anxious over something that truly may not even happen.  Like Roller said....its smart to be vigilant and be prepared.

I was really, really sick my first week and then the second week came along and I was back at work and really busy. We do "affectionately" refer to the first week as Hell week and the second as Heck week.  I do remember getting to a point where I felt like all I thought about was smoking or rather NOT smoking.  I remember asking my husband for advice since he is a recovering alcoholic and has been for over 34 years and he quit smoking over 29 years ago.  He told me to get down on my knees and pray to have the mental obsession removed.  I remember not feeling much faith in that idea but I did it, I got down on my knees and I prayed.  I had to do it more than once but it worked.  Once that mental obsession was gone, it was much easier.  Not everyone goes through that, this is a one day at a time JOURNEY and it sounds like you are doing an amazing job.  Keep going and be prepared for whatever comes your way...KNOW that smoking does nothing FOR you...but it MAY be doing lots TO you.  Those beautiful kids with you should be a HUGE incentive.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like it may be possible to have an “easier” time quitting. I’m not anxious waiting for the hammer to drop, just was curious as to why my cravings were weak, and if stronger ones will come later. I don’t know if I have triggers since I’ve never tried quitting before, but I’m going to assume alcohol is one. I’m not much of a drinker anymore, but I did love to smoke when drinking.

How can I tell you are a newbie quitter?  Great on you for one week free.  Do not take one puff ever.  I had quit for 5 years and took one puff in 2017. If your quit is 'easy' this time, I think I might hear an addict talking.  And it goes like this.  "you quit for a week and it wasn't that hard, you can quit easily any time, so why not have a cigarette or a pack now , seeing how easy it is to quit".  i am a real addicted addict and I know the sound of the addict speaking.  Sounds like your addict is setting you up.  Just saying.

If you are having an easy time quitting, hang on to that. Now would be the time to learn about the addiction and why staying quit one day at a time is your best option. Liking your quit is a gift to hold onto and grow stronger in.
