It's best to post in public that way you can get the responses from the most people. Certainly topics from time to time are private in nature but it's best to keep things anonymous to some degree even if it is personal.  If you sent a personal/private message to someone, there are some people that have told me that they don't communicate privately and prefer to only interact in public so if you messaged one of those people they might not be responding for that reason.

I know, it can be confusing all the different ways to do things on here.  Here's a link to info that may help:  Different Content Types on EX and When to Use Each One    You can also just click on the Community Help icon (top right) and read through the material there, and/or ask questions if you're confused.

The more specific you can be about the difficulty you're having, the better able we will be able to answer your question.

You are not alone here, you might not have been able to find things but, I assure you that you are not alone.  The site takes some time to get used to and to navigate but it is possible.  I learned through trying different things out...I went to the home page and pledged and looked at new blogs and recent activity and I also went to my inbox...the little bell to the left of your avatar.  I followed several people and chose what I wanted notifications of under preferences when I click on my avatar.  I get A LOT of notifications in my inbox...I, personally chose not to get emails or text messages but that's just MY preference.  There always seem to be enough things in my inbox to keep me busy and then some.  That's where YOUR ?Alone conversation appeared.  We are here, there is pretty much always someone here, we come and go and are here at different times but considering the fact that our members are from many time zones, someone always seems to be around.  

Hang in there, I am no techy either.
