I don't know off hand but I suspect a couple things.

  1. At the time it was developed they didn't anticipate someone uploading a picture into a post to explain a video so the time to add that didn't seem to be worth it.
  2. There is a technical limitation.
  3. It was buggy or offered a sub optimal experience.

The good news is there is probably a way around it. By attaching the photo and then linking it or something similar.

JACKIE1-25-15‌ Thanks for the mention. I am subscribed to Community Help‌ and get everything posted in there as an email so rest assured I'll respond . I'm not subscribed elsewhere except to most discussions I've participated in so if you see a technical question about the software like this one, feel free to @mention me so it brings it to my attention or suggest that the person move their post/question into Community Help. Thanks!

Mark,

I would have mentioned you but it wouldn't let me.

When I did the @  and typed in Mark, there were 5 to choose from. When I hit show more, there were 5 more but you weren't included and there was no further option.

I used to be able to link them from photobucket but now they only allow you to do that from paid accounts. I only share with friends on Facebook so I couldn't put it there and link it because it wouldn't show up for people here. I could put it in my welcome to new members but it wasn't something to do with quitting smoking so it didn't fit. I could have written a separate post, put the picture there and linked it to that but do you see how much work this becomes?

If the option to put a photo in the main body of a video post is there but you can only do it from a hyperlink it's over 50% useless in my opinion.

I get it. I don't know why an upload option for pictures in a Video post wasn't included. I'd venture to guess that they didn't anticipate that many people would actually do it and the people who would probably would link an image.  The effort to include upload wasn't worth the minimal use it would get.  And yes your option may work.  You could also upload it as a profile picture if you anticipate using the image multiple times and then link it from your profile pictures.  That way you're not creating a new post. Yes it is a workaround but it helps to solve the problem given your limitations on what you share on social media.

Honestly, I don't think they will add an upload option for images to a Video post type.

No need to @mention me when posting in Community Help‌. I get notified regardless.  If you mention me in Community Help I actually get two e-mails.  One for the post in Community Help and one for the @mention?

The support team is trying to find out why I cannot be mentioned for some people.  They've identified a bug and will hopefully fix in the next release.  They have gotten a lot better recently in fixing bugs, especially long standing ones.  Last Friday we had an update and fixed numerous ones including @mentioning people with _.
