Oh don't give up, smoking is not your friend....this is normal to feel like this!  Nicotine has consumed your mind and wants you to fail!  Get up and take a walk, make a list of your favorite things to do, sip on some water, do some deep breathing into those lungs that are going to love it!   It is nicotine playing those tricks and that is what you are trying to conquer!  You have already taken a good step in the right direction by coming here and posting!  I know all about depression and it is evident that you are trying to cope with it!  IT will be there still whether  you smoke or not!  Take a stand and go with NOT!   Shout out if you need more help along the way!  Someone is always here reading!

Change your mind's direction!  Do not dwell!!!!!!  Eat something sour, or get a Fireball.   Brisk exercise - even marching in place, or a few jumping jacks.  Take a brisk walk if you can - get your arms a-swinging.  Write down why you quit and keep it handy.  Write down all the bad things smoking does to you - and keep in mind it only FOOLS you into thinking it does anything FOR you.  Find cute/funny videos on YouTube.  Put on some tunes and dance or sing aloud to them.  Play a computer game.  Clean out a closet (or a drawer).  Clean out your car!

Would you keep a friend who was slowly pushing a knife into your back and twisting it every once in awhile?  Didn't think so.

This quit thing takes some effort on your part in the early days - but I promise you it will be worth it.

Grieving the loss of that "best friend" who had a gun to our heads is really part of the journey.  Your addiction is going to keep talking and trying to get you back as long as you keep giving it power.  Find something to do to distract yourself...EXERCISE, DANCE, SING...watch funny videos on youtube or watch funny movies.  You need to get that dopamine flowing.  Cigarettes ARE killers.  Looks like YoungAtHeart‌ is on the same page as I am.  Yell NOPE..Not One Puff Ever.  No crave has ever killed anyone...no one can say that about cigarettes.  Keep blogging...keep reading other blogs, DON'T let go of your quit.

SMOKING IS MY BEST FRIEND   &   My Cigarette, My Friend by Joel Spitzer   (In case you haven't read them.)

You don't really want to give up, else you wouldn't be here writing the blog you did.  You're right.  It IS you mind playing tricks.  Don't listen to it.  Keep reaffirming your smart, life-giving choice.  Continue on track.  You CAN do this.  Just get through today.  Distract, refocus, as Nancy said - don't sit there and dwell.  Dwelling will drown you.  Get up, get out.  You're morphing into an amazing new creature.  A smoke free one.

I keep reminding myself that smoking masked our emotions and now they're coming to the surface.  Being sad i.e., losing a best friend, has been a big part of the adjustment for me.  It's early in your quit, so try to work through with the suggestions above.   Stay close; it will get easier.

You don't have to believe everything you think.  Especially when addiction is talking.  Or depression.  A wise woman once told me "You can choose what thoughts to invest in.  Choose wisely".   You'll be ok if you decide you're ok   Your choice.  Choose wisely
